Good day! I'm going to be reloading 9mm soon. I'm shopping primers, and there are a TON of primers to pick from. Any companies you recommend or really DON'T recommend? I see a sale on Canada Ammo for Murom primers, $152 for 5000 small pistol primers. Also, $128 for large rifle (is a 7.62x.39 considered small or large rifle?). Seems like a good deal for the quantity, but I've never seen this company anywhere before. Tell me what you use and what's worked well for you. I'm new to reloading so I don't need extra headaches if these aren't as good as someone else. Thank you!

CCI are a harder cup. I find in my grand power I get one every once in a while that doesnt fire 1st time. Always will the 2nd time. No issues in my np29 thou.

I use Winchester for more then 10 years whit no problem cci is good to Remington is to avoid a lot of miss fire have fun

Depending on your gun, Murum primers may not be the best choice.as SP and SR are slightly different, even though they fit the primer pocket they are not exactly the same. Murum primers are basically Dominion primers, and back in the day they were still classified SP & SR. I used many SR when they were out of SP, and worked fine in all my pistols, but I noticed that some striker fire pistols did not ignite them.

So are the Murum SP or SR? They can't SP & SR, everytime someone asks Wolverine they seem to not answer this question.

to be safe, I'd stick with SP primers specifixally.

Is not Canada Ammo that distributes them? Might be better off asking them

I generally just buy whatevers the cheapest at the moment.I honestly have never found much of a difference in the brands, they all have worked just fine.

As regards the Murum(dominion)small pistol primers,I have used them interchangeably in rifle(223)and in handgun calibres. They work just fine in both and chrono results show them to be no different to other pistol specific primers.I have also found them to ignite easily, even with 11lb mainspring in my Shadow 2.Ive used about 20k of these primers and have been very happy with their performance.

While small rifle and small pistol primers may interchange,Large rifle/pistol certainly do not.

The "hint" is in Canada Ammo's SKU#: DAKVB223PRIMEC. Murom uses the KVB-### numbering system. I think it breaks down like this:

KVB223 = Small rifle primer, soft(er) cup. (probably why they're good to go for pistols)
KVB223M = Small rifle primer, hard(er) cup.
KVB556M = Small rifle magnum primer, hard(er) cup.

Ok thank you. We are shooting Walther PPQ M2 9mm and may be adding S&W M&P 9mm. As I am new to reloading I want to be smart about cost, but not stupid about quality. I haven't got a reply from Canada Ammo yet about the issue you mention, but it's a weekend so I may not hear back til tomorrow. I am in no rush to buy, but I just saw the sale and wanted to take advantage if a good idea, and avoid if not!

Ones on flash sale are SKU DAKVB223PRIMECS

I used dominion SR on my 1911 and xdm with no problem, but some striker fires take a second hit. Works fine on my rifles. Not one failure yet out of 30k.

Western Metals had FiocchiI SP primers on sale. I tried them & they seem to be pretty good. The only problem I had was with a very light action PPC revolver which failed to ignite about 3 rounds out of 100 (in fairness Winchester and Dominion SP primers were even less dependable in this gun. Only Federal SP work reliably).

Murom makes Wolf, Tula and Dominion primers. I've tried them all and they were all very reliable (on a par or better than Winchester). I have never tried Remington pistol primers but I've used Dominion, Wolf, Tula, Winchester, CCI and Federal and with the exception of the aforementioned PPC gun all have worked reliably in both my pistols and revolvers.

What you really need to avoid is paying 55$ per 1000.

Yes, that's why I asked about this pricing. $152 for 5000 seems to be a good price compared to anything else I've seen in Alberta. Even Western Metals doesn't have anything in stock under $35 per 1000.

I use S & B; local dealer always has a good stock, and they work as good for me as Winchester and CCI; for less money. I also find Winchester over packages theirs.
