While I have seen Glock race runs over the last 25 years, I haven't seen one used for more than a season. There is a reason why they and the XD are not the usual base for conversion.

If you like the CZ, and want a race gun, maybe look for a Czechmate?

Looks like he is looking to build the gun. I would go Glock as there is a good amount of information out there on the Race Gun Glock. (I feel like a good majority of them are using the Glock 17 though.)

The standard 9mm race guns are 2011's and CZ Czechmate/Tanfoglio Eric Gold Customs.

^^ That's not a proper Open Glock gun, it's half a**ed

This is.

The only reason to build a full on "race gun" similar to the one shown in Tactical111's post is for the Open category at IPSC meets. And if you do it won't fit into any sort of reasonable holster for use in 3 gun or similar "military" shooting matches.

Also to qualify for the IPSC Open category you need to run at over SAMMI pressure levels to meet Major power factor or live with lower scores if you can't nail the Alpha zone consistently.

It sounds to me like you simply want to add some bits to your gun to make it better but not go as far as a full on IPSC race gun. Yes? No?

No,
We have a local military shoot where pretty much anything goes.My wife is interested in trying so I am looking into a 9mm with low recoil/ barrel rise.I will most likely keep my CZ Shadow nearly stock but would like to build something a little slicker.I have read guys are using a Glock 34 as a start.

Ah... fair enough. Sounds like it's a pretty specialized local sort of thing.

Has she handled a Glock? I ask because even me with my large hands find the Glock to be a pretty big handful. And most women that I know which shoot choose guns other than Glock for this reason. Most of them find that the basic single stack 1911 fits to a "T". And, oddly enough, the CZ platform. I suspect the CZ's fit because the grip section is rather pear shaped thanks to the step in the rear of the frame with the grip scales pulling in around the rear strap.

If you were to base this build on a 1911 in 9mm then you'll also find that there's a TON of stuff to build up such a gun. 1911's have been the basis for the majority of open class race guns. Far more so than Glock. Most open gun shooters want that short crisp single action trigger after all.

Either way if you're after an open gun with compensator it would be better to start out with something that has a threaded barrel. You need the threaded barrel to allow you to install the screw on compensator. There's some options for bushing compensators but the major opinion is that they are not as good as barrel mounted comps. So picking a gun that comes with a threaded barrel will at least save you the cost of buying a new barrel right off the bat.

You can't do much with a plastic frame. There is no way you can put an optic sight on a plastic frame as they flex when you shoot them. I've seen a Glock slide with optics on it but I can only imagine what will happen with the optics when it's constantly pounded by the slide going back and forth all the time.
