Hi All,

To all the 9mm reloaders, For the past few months I have noticed a new trend in Brass showing up, maybe t is just me and it was always there, maybe not..anyway..

What we are all used to seeing in nice almost straight (Slight taper) wall 9mm brass with a generally even wall thickness from head to mouth.
I started seeing the change in Speer brass, but now it is showing up in Federal too.

The Brass on the left is what I am used to seeing over the years, the one on the right is a Speer and if you can pick it out on the picture you will see a line going around the case, that is where the wall thickness changes.
At first it seemed that they were making the brass cheaper by thinning only the mouth but after mic-ing it out, the area at the mouth on the Speer brass is the same wall thickness as the entire thickness of a standard piece (nominally), the lower wall is thicker, noticeably thicker. I haven't got my numbers close by, but has anyone else seen this?

Seen it many times on Blazer and CCI brass too. Never concerned me much as reduction in case volume for the loads I use in IPSC is very little to cause a concern.

I've seen it to, but just assumed it was a certain guns chamber causing it. I reload it all the same though.

Seen often as well, mostly on rounds fired by leos at the few ranges I shoot. I believe the step matches the seating depth of the bullet that once was there. I think it simply relates to dies, bullets & sealant used by OEMs for LE & military rounds. My reloaded rounds don't leave such mark (Reddings and Lee factory crimp).
Not a concern to me, they reload just fine.
