Hi All,

Just got a 9x23 Steyr Model 1911, which came with a box of factory Fiocchi ammo.
I decided to pull one round from it, namely for the powder to get an idea of the possible type of powder based on the cut, and weight.
Attached are a few photos.
Also, 7.62x25 Tokarev stripper clips work perfectly, and as it is an 8round firearm, even better!
4.2grs of a square cut pistol flake powder behind a 115gr RN jacketed round, with a slightly concave/hollow base (lead exposed on bottom).
Hope this can help someone, and if anyone has a pet load, would like to hear!
Cheers!

Commercial powders aren't usually available to retail customers so identifying the powder is fruitless.

i am using 700x, this powder is a bit of a pain for volume measurement but here are my results. my notes say I weighed these out.
COAL 32.99mm small pistol primer. goal is 1025-1230fps.

3.3Gr 115Gr RN varied from 770fps to 812, did not cycle.
3.5Gr didn't measure them, did not cycle.
3.7Gr haven't tested yet.

Use this at your own risk, I assume no liability.

Dak.

Here is what I made for mine to use in our indoor range (no Jacketed Bullets Allowed)

Brass: new from Starline
Primer: CCI #500
Powder: TiteGroup 4.0g
Bullet: 115g Hi-Tek (Xmetal)
Choreographed at 1028-1046 FPS

Please Use at your discretion, I assume no liability.

Hello,
Those of you who use starline brass, have you had any issues with case wall thickness? I loaded some rounds with campro and Hornady 9mm 115 grain rounds and they fit tightly enough that some get stuck in the chamber just trying to chamber them. I made probably 30 different dummy rounds with varied OAL, crimp, etc to see if any would freely chamber and they all seemed to be a thou or 2 too wide where the bullet sits.

My pistol is an early production Chilean contract with very little wear if that has any significance.

If you run the loaded amo through a Lee Factory crimp die, the crimp will not cause a bulge and the die body will size out any fat rounds that might have trouble chambering. The Lee die will guarantee that all your ammo will chamber.

I went through a six pages bushbeater on a French forum a few days ago and a couple of problems stood out with that Steyr model.

A shooter bought Starline brass and CH4 (?) dies.
Virgin brass would not chamber.
Resized brass wouldn't either (Some references tell us to always resize new brass btw).
He borrowed a 38 Sp sizing dies which solved his problem, as he was able to keep using the brass for a few reloads with the CH set.
(Note that they are lots of variations between dies of various makers, and sometimes within a given brand).

A more worrisome problem was found by a couple of owners: their barrels were oversized at .362 and the chambers wouldn't allow such bullets.

I don't remember where i saw the information, but a company in Eastern Europe is making new barrels in 9 Steyr and 9 Luger.

btw, could you guys compare the hammer strength with the one on a CZ for example. I find that mine is pretty weak vs a stiff firing pin one. I cannot even try a live primer as I misplaced a few parts like the wedge...

I use 38 super case and seating dies and a lee 9 mm factory crimp, case measures at .378 (9.60) and at bullet .379 (9.62). I also have a Chilean contract I believe from the second Batch sent. They fit a little tight in the chamber but cycle and shoot fine not that I shoot it much maybe 30 rounds a year.
