9mm - unique recipet request

Hi All,

I am also another newbie to the reloading world. This past weekend I purchased a RCBS master reload kit and a set of 9mm carbide dies. Picked up some "Unique" and of course primers, and a couple different 9mm bullet choices.

First up - Hornady 115 GR FMJ RN (encapsulated)

Secondly - Hornady 147 GR HP/XTP

Just wondering if anybody has a recipet for the xtp's. They seem to be a little long and if I seat to the specs in the Speer book it just seems to me the bullet would be in the powder space quiet a bit and possibly throw of the pressure specs in the book.

Also the 115 FMJ recipet that I have is 5.6gr to 1.135 does this seem correct for a starting load? There wasn't a whole lot more room to increase just lookin at the room left in the case.

I have fired 20rnds of my freshly mad 115's however that will be a story for another time.

Lyman 48 edition has the following for unique

115gr hp start 4.4 ( 996 fps) (20600 Cup)

max 5.8 (1233 fps) (30700 cup)

1.090 O.A.L


147 TMJ START 3.7 (873 fps) ( 20500 cup)

MAX 4.5 (1039 fps) (29100 cup)

O.A.L 1.115
 
I have that book however, doesn't it matter what type of bullet your putting in? I.E. 115 hp vs fmj. I know its definetly going to be different O.A.L. I have the info from the Lyman's 48 and the Speer. If somebody has a Hornady book I would greatly appreciate the specs for these two bullets.

Also I'm shooting a G17. What are some of your favorite loads for this gun?
 
My understanding is that the recipe goes by the weight of the bullet and not the type, so a 115 HP would be the same as a 115 FMJ. HOWEVER this doesn't apply to cast lead bullets, they are treated as a seperate bullet.

I'm rather new at this myself so I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

I load to 1.085 in my CZ75 as any longer won't chamber.

I shoot a cz sp-o1 shadow and I notices that it also requires a short O.A.L.
My guess it's because of the steep feeding ramp.
