9mm vs 38

Out of curiosity I measured a 9mm FMJ and a factory 38 special FMJ flat nose bullet.
The 9mm measured 8.98mm while the 38 only 8.93mm
Am i missing something? Isn't the 38 supposed to be bigger?

The .38 bullet is a tad bigger. 9mm measures .355 & .38 is .357. (Thousands of an inch). Lead bullets will measure .001 or .002 larger in diameter.
