9mm X95

Hey CGN,


I've recently bought myself a X95 in 9mm to go along with my loved 5.56 model...for a little cheaper shooting. I KNOW you can find cheaper/lighter weight 9mm PCCs (but not shorter and still NR) but it is a 1:1 "trainer" for my primary rifle (and I can convert it to 5.56 if I so wanted) so I am okay with the cost.

Now I know its blowback design, is NR (with the right barrel length) and you can get yourself 10 round “pistol” mags for it.

Besides that...info on these is quite hard to come across on the internet/YouTube.

Does anyone here have one and have any info they care to share?

Can it handle 9mm NATO rounds? What about +P rounds? Any issues feeding non FMJ shaped rounds? ie. flat nosed or hollow points?

What can I expect accuracy wise?

Any others tips/tricks/thoughts?

I’ve tried various ammo including some surplus NATO rounds (old stock). All worked great. Generally I use BDX 124g and it’s accurate enough at 25-50 yards using a red dot. Will be watching to see what others say.

How many rounds can you shoot before it NEEDS a cleaning? I know blowbacks are dirty as hell.

With my good old military training I clean after ever use … except this one time. Ultimately it has never had an issue … ever. If I remember it was about 500 rounds then a week later another 500. It was very dirty.

I put 350 rounds through my 9mm PCC between cleanings as a test recently to see how dirty it would get. It got really dirty. Blowback operation guns get really dirty, for sure. I would probably not go for more than 200 rounds between cleanings again, personally, but everyone has different tolerances for fouling.

I have been told by a number of people whose opinions I trust that most shooters err on the side of cleaning too often, and they can probably clean a lot less than they do and still be safe. In other words, you should clean as often as you feel comfortable with, as long as it doesn't seem to affect the safety or function of the firearm.

My PCC is super-easy to clean, though, both the barrel and in the receiver/chamber area, and I'm not sure how the blowback system is set up on a X95 9mm for cleaning.

As for +p and +p+ rounds, I've read that unless your firearm's manual specifically says that it's safe to fire either type of round, you shouldn't. I know a lot of that is legal CYA, but honestly, unless you're trying to penetrate armour or get some other sort of mileage out of that fractional difference in extra muzzle velocity, is it worth the extra wear and tear?

I wanted a second gun…didn’t want to have to switch back and forth all the time…and re-zero optics

I don’t think any manufacturers will STATE that their gun/s can take +P+ as there is no standard pressure limits for that, there is for +P at least.

I just wanted to know for using defensive rounds for hunting, I have some Hornady 124gr +P hollow points and I think they’d make good coyote medicine inside of 50M or some ground hog popping fun lol.

My assumption is anything “new” as in made since the 90s should be able to handle some +P ammo usage…not likely most people will (or can afford) to feed their guns 1000s of rounds of that kinda stuff anyways.
