I've been on the lookout for a better optic for my VZ58 than the one I currently have. Here is it.

It's a Bushnell AR optics 1-4x 24mm Throw Down PCL FFP. I like it but it's not quite right for this gun.

What are people using on their vz?

Ideally I'd like something with FFP, 1-6x magnification, shorter and lighter, and with a reticle for 7.62x39. The biggest problem I have with it is how long it is. It just sticks out too far on this gun.

And while I'm at it are there any good folding stocks and rear aperture sights for this otherwise fantastic gun?

Thanks.

I tried and tried without luck, I tried leopold but it ran outta adjustment, tried bushnell xlt but it was to long, tried corwin reflex bundle but it wasn't any good at 100. ACOG may be you best bet or a eotech for that rear mount. Dont cheap out or your gonna be super unhappy with optics.

I was using a Leupold Mark AR on mine. Worked really well. Just hit the bottom of the scope a couple times. Put some black tape on it to protect it. Never had an issue with it bouncing back into the chamber. I also like the smaller profile of the 1" tube over the 30mm although its whats the hot #### these days is the 30mm. The 30mm tube doesn't transition, or in the words of the inexperienced, "gather" more light. It just gives you more adjust ability for your turrets.

Was a great set up however I got the side mount back before there was the short mount. I wish I would of got the short mount but because of the low profile of the Leupold I still had a generous amount of chin and a bit of cheek weld on the stock. Would probably have to rig up some kind of deflector though if you mount it that low. Taking the scope off changed the zero every so slightly. Took about 6rds to adjust it to zero every time I took it off.

i use an aimpoint t1 mounted on my fab defense handguard
i tried all the side mounted things, really didnt work for me

How does that work for you? I've been having problems with my Vz.58 and I suspect its a case that the side mount system is introducing some slight movement that is causing problems maintaining zero. I have the FAB Defense handguard and after reading this I mounted a red dot sight to try out next time...I should I expect any problems with this set-up?

Burris ar 332 on low removable mount. Compact and very clear. Over 2000 rounds so far, holds zero after removed multiple times.

Good suggestions thanks guys.

I like the primary arms 4x but I want a variable optic so I can use it as 1x when shooting close range.

I also have a left charging handle on my bolt so using a different mount isn't an option because it would be in the way. I also attached a small brass deflector to the front of it and it works well.

I can even load using stripper clips.

It is a pain to find an optic for a gun that wasn't designed for one.

So does anyone know of a good folding stock and rear aperture sight for the vz? Thanks.

I use the Primary Arms 4X on my VZ58 on the higher version of the CSA side mount rail, so I can still use the iron sights for close range. Primary Arms also has a 1x-6x version for 7.62x39, so you might consider that: https://ctcsupplies.ca/collections/...ary-arms-1-6x-scope-with-acss-7-62x39-reticle

However, you may not be able to get the combination of (1) shorter, (2) more magnification adjustments and (3) 7.62x39 dedicated reticle.

Over the last 6 years, I have bounced around multiple configurations for this platform clinging to the hope of finding the one magnified optics setup that I would be happy with. Every time I think I have arrived at something clever or the best idea, something ended up bugging me.

Recently I finally gave up, and switched over to a fore-grip upper railed co-witness red dot setup. Switching my mindset from wanting to use this as a mid range gun to a dedicated close quarter piece, so I put a folding stock on to make the purpose complete. Now I think I am finally happy with it.

Thinking back, I should've followed most "real world" usage photos of how people used this gun for work and gone this route from day one.

Just my 2 cents.

That's a great idea, thanks. I'm going to give it a try. It's lighter than the Bushnell but a bit longer so I'll have to move it forward. Won't be able to load with stripper clips though oh well.

I can use the iron sights with my mount and even take out the dust cover. It holds 0 just fine if I take it off though.

Look up the "Binden Aiming Concept" as pertaining to ACOGs. With a PA ACSS, you can use the same technique. Shooting at close range with a magnified optic isnt as hard as some people think it is

Most magnified optics are either going to need a shell deflector, or be mounted far enough back that getting a comfortable eye relief will be difficult. Russian/Belarus side mount optics are an option as well, I have one that is 1-5x, has a illuminated 7.62x39 reticle and rangefinder for 1m targets (kind of useless). They are all FFP; pricey and heavy, but really add to the Eastern European look of the firarms.

Even though these scope hang off to the left slightly, they will still require a shell deflector on the VZ/CZ's
