Anyone know of a better after market trigger for the Stevens/Savage Mod 200? Could`nt seem to find a Timney so was wondering if there are any other ones out there. Thanks.

sharp shooter supply has some really nice ones
you can find a link at w ww.savageshooters.com in the links section

The stevens 200 trigger is adjustable. You can clean it up and make for an extremely sharp crisp 3-ish pounds with no overtravel, creep or 'play,' just about perfect for a hunting rifle

You beat me to it, I was about to ask the same question myself. Where does one order the Sharp Shooter Supply triggers in Canada. I'll call Western Gun Parts tomorow and find out though.

Thanks guys, but won't there be a problem with shipping "gun parts" to Canada? I understand scopes are a no-no, .... so triggers are not? Do I need an import permit?

The question that must be asked is, "how much money and effort do you want to put into a cheap rifle"?

I am nt criticizing the 200, it is just about the best value at the low end of the market, but......if you put an extra $100 of bits and parts into one, at the end of the day, you will have an entry level rifle that as a better trigger, but is limited by a light weight barrel, etc.

Its just my personal view, but I would rather have a base model Cadillac than a Chevy with all of the option and trim add ons, especially if the ultimate price of the two starts to convege.

Allright, so what do you suggest as a base model Cadillac (no sarcasm intended BTW). I am planning to build a .223 on a Stevens 200 frame, dropped into a Ross laminate and an SSS trigger. If you have something better in mind, I'd like to know. The cost of the aforementioned project is under $600.00. If there is something that will shoot as well and look as good, I'm all ears. :)

Well, a Stevens 200 is the cheapest way top obtain a Savage action for custom builds - by the time you part everything out, it's nearly free.

Now granted if all you're doing is swapping out the factory trigger for a $100 aftermarket job trigger, then you probably should have spent the extra hundred bux for the full blown Savage with the accutrigger. You've spent the same money, and gotten basically the same thing except yours has the 'budget' badge on it.

It's like ricing out a civic instead of spending the extra cash up front and buying yourself a real sports car

You could spend about the same price and get a 700sps that still needs trigger work, a new stock and a better barrel.

The savage is just as accurate out of the box, often more so, than many rifles for several times the price. The stevens is the same thing with a different color plastic for the stock, and a different name on the bolt, for an even better price.

I'll stick with the stevens thanks!

Btw, the savage accutrigger is very good when compared to other factory triggers, but the rifle basix and sss triggers are not factory, they compare with other high quality aftermarket triggers.

My stevens 223 will shoot sub half/moa with the factory stock and a rifle basix trigger. My stevens 270 hasn't had much load development done yet, but out of the box with cheap factory ammo it shoots sub moa. All I did was clean up the factory trigger as mentioned earlier in the thread. :)
