A-Bolt m1000 eclipse

You will hear about the stealth and the coyote here, but never anything on Brownings. I have only seen one target/F Class rifle built on a Browning in 15 years of target rifle shooting. Kinda makes ya wonder.
 
It does make me wonder.Lots of savage FP's, Rem 700 ps and these are not your uberbench guns either.What gives? I've got an M1000 eclipse that I have not tried out yet and was thinking surely there must be another nut who has some experience with these.
 
I am in the same boat. I just bought a m-1000 eclipse stainless and have yet to try it out. It would be nice to hear some opinions about theese guns.
 
I have two eclipses, one in 223 with the BOSS and a 7mm WSM with a muzzle brake installed. The 223 has been my hog gun for a number of years and will shoot 1/2 moa. The BOSS does work for tightening up groups.
Haven't used the 7 mm much as of yet. Did some 145 gr handloads last summer and got sub moa results. Want to try a heavier bullet and try 500yds plus this year. Don't know why you don't hear more about them, I have never had a problem with these two.
 
I had an M1000 Eclipse, when that name applied to the 300WM version alone. I see they now have stretched that name. That aside, it was a a highly accurate rifle. Far better than any out of the box savage or remington I ever met. The downsides were that its was a Browning AboltII, which are, IMHO, total crap. Don't get me wrong, the performance was there, but the trigger was less than great, the bolt kinda klunky, the mag system, well I could rant for a month about how terrible the Browning mag system is, particularly when you are trying to use the gun from the bench, and don't have enough room to remove the mag, because the stupid base plate is too long to swing out of the way. If the mag had been proper, I would still own it, inspite of its being an Abolt II. Out of the box that rifle was insanely accurate, all shots were always touching holes on the target. I simply dialed in the boss where suggested, and usually left it there. I used to use Sako HPs as my target loads, rather than Fed match or reloading, and they simply kicked ass.
The reason I suspect you don't see more about them is; Browning blow when it comes to marketing. Thier mag systems are not really suitable for a precision competition rifle. thier triggers are less than ideal. And they are not really considered gunsmith friendly.
 
I had an Eclipse in 300 wm for a while and it shot great. I loved the thumbhole stock and the recoil was very managable. One thing I did not like was that any time I wanted to change bullet weights I had to fool around with the boss to find the sweet spot and sometimes this took a fair # of shots. The only reason I got rid of it was that I purchased a custom 300 WM that shoots .25" all the time and I can't put it down to shoot anything else. If anyone is intrested I have a Ken Farrell base for the Eclipse that I would sell for $60.00 + shipping.

l bought dosing's m 1000 eclipse 300 win mag and was very pleased with the accuracy but ,the mag limits you to the oal you can reload to,and its quite easy to open the mag to let you get closer to the lands and now it shoots as well as any target rifle lve had,but l agree with dosing,that the mag is not user friendly when your on or off the bench for me.

I bought a 375H&H mag for my A-Bolt. Works great, no feeding issues with any ammo I've built, and you can really load them out there. Works reeally well for ballistic tips, and the heavy accubonds. All kinds of room.
 
I just had my A-BOLT II ECLIPSE STAINLESS in 7mm wsm out to the range today for the first time. The gun shoots extreemly well and had no problems with feeding or extracting. People here have mentioned about the drop mag being a real problem but I actually really like it. If you treat it like an internal box mag it work just like an internal box mag. If you want to drop the floorplate and get to the box, touch the button and drop the floor plate. I had no issues with it not working on the bench as ther was ample clearance for it to swing open.
As for grouping I was very impressed. I started with handloads and after a 20 round breakin I shot a few 3 shot groups (see pics 1-2).
With factory ammo the gun was not nearly as accurate but still grouped just under an inch (see pic 3). Through the chrony the factory ammo was pushing 3400fps, right around 150fps faster then advertized velocity. The velocity was taken right at 10ft infront of the front of the barrel.
The last pics are of my gun with a new leupold 8.5-25 vxIII with a varmint retical.

I can sort of see that some people have problems with the clip that attaches to the floor plate. With short bench rest non-swiveling bipods or whatever you use this can be a #####.
Personally I don't have this problem for some reason. I have a tall bipod, allowing the floor plate to open completely. In fact I don't even take my eye off the scope and my trigger hand off the stock while loading the clip. I open the floor, leave the clip attached and load... close the floor and shoot. I personally find it very handy and a major advantage over other systems!
 
i have a eclipse m-1000 300wsm and it rocks.spent all summer playing and zeroing in the boss with diffrent bullets, fianly chose 150 gr barnes mrx. dropped a black bear in his trcks at 170 yds with one shot and a cow elk with one shot at 375 yds. the boss makes it so i can shoot it all day long. 100% pleased withthis gun.
 
I have it in 22-250 and its the best coyote gun ive ever had. i really like the thumbholes stock. looking at putting a 1:8 on it to push 80gr down the tube.
 
I bought one in 22-250 for my brother and its a great gun. The first load we slapped together with 4064 and 50gr Vmax shot under 1/2 MOA. I don't think I would recommend the BOSS though, seems to be too much screwing around without much pay off.
 
I have a Browning M-1000 eclipse, NO BOSS, in a .300 wsm chamber. I shot winchester super X 180gr rounds out of it (cheapest bullets to buy until I reload) and it shot a 3 round group in 11/16" at 100 yards measuring from outside of bullet holes. I was quite happy with that for a factory load. Great gun.
