I was reading the thread on the Pacific Theatre and I thought maybe now was good time to mention this. My brother and I have been working on a memorial website for our dad's cousin, James Henry Whalen, DFC of the RCAF. He was attached to the RAF and flew in Britain, Egypt briefly, and then Ceylon and India. He was credited with three Germans and three Japanese kills making him one of Canada's aces.

The site went up in 1996 and we moved it a couple of times since then. In that time it helped reunite an entire squadron from the second world war and led to other memorial pages. A few years ago we were contacted by the son of an ex-RAF radio maintenance crew member who had preserved some of Jimmy's affects after he was KIA. He sent us the nose art from his Hurricane IIC, a very rare piece of fighter art.

So the big news is that the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight is currently painting their Hurricane IIc, PZ865, in Jimmy's personal plane's kit.

Anyway, I thought a bunch of milsurp guys might appreciate that. My brother and I will be heading to England hopefully this fall for the unveiling.

This is great, I look forward to the pictures

I'll post them when we get back. In the meantime here are some pics from the site:

Jimmy posing with one of the VALs he shot down during the battle of Ceylon. Someone mentioned Len Birchall in the Pacific thread. His warning lead directly to this Allied victory.
