I found something wierd today when cleaning my M305 after a good range session.
When I pulled the action from the stock I found that in the channel where the gas piston meets the the op rod there was an oil residue.
The previous time I cleaned it I had pulled the gas piston and cleaned it out But did not oil it. In fact I made sure that everything was clean and dry before re assembly. I'm not sure when it was done before as I bought it used and had not cleaned it before shooting. The rifle was minty clean when I got it and after running a few patches through the bore to make sure it was good I had decided not to go further.
Since then I've put about 300 rounds through it. Some surplus, some commercial, and recently some handloads. I figure it was time for a full breakdown and clean after that.
Now I've pulled the piston and it seems to be slightly coated with oil.
The only place I had used oil (I greased all moving parts) was a light coat in the bore followed by a dry patch. I wouldn't think that is where the oil came from but wouldn't rule it out.
Anyone run into this before?
