I was recently looking at a new 'canadian' bushmaster and noticed its receiver is stamped .223/5.56 does this mean its a wylde chamber? Or just a generic reciver they use for 2 applications?

Also I priced 55gr .223 Remington UMC for $9.50/20 but noticed 45gr JHP Winchester at $17.50 for 40rds. I noticed most of the ammo sponsors only sell 55gr, for around $500/1000 so does the 45gr JHP feed ok, or should it be avoided?

Where is everyone getting that steel cased Wolf Ammo?

The 45gr JHP Winchester has a muzzle velocity of 3,550 fps. I've heard that very high pressure ammo causes more wear and tear on the barrel.

When I first bought my Bushmaster AR-15 they gave me 45gr ammo but after I realized its not good for the gun I returned it and bought 55gr ammo that produces around 3000 fps.

avoid this round in your AR15 like the plague, the bullet is not crimped firmly enough in the case and most ar15's will have problems feeding it, and they will jam with the bullet getting pushed back into the case... and if it does chamber like that you can expect high pressures and maybe a blown up gun.

other then that, in a bolt gun that 45gr stuff is deadly accurate... my tikka loves it and a buddies remington would shoot 3/4 inch groups all daywith it.

Whew! Im glad I didn't buy the 45gr. Thanks guys. It occurred to me after I posted that I could probably check and see if there's a stamping on the barrel, since as Dangertree pointed out, its likely a generic receiver.

X2 - What Westie said. UMC ammo is the only ammo that has ever given me problems in my T97. Had is push bullets into the case, although it still fired them fine. It grouped like lightening though, I never hit the same place twice.
