A couple of Brnos

I've been hankering to get my hands on a CZ 452 and missed out on a couple in the EE. After some consideration, I figure I should just dust off a couple of old Brnos that I have sitting in the safe. Both need some work.

First is a Model 2E, it needs a bolt and have contacted Brnoman and its 100.00 U.S for a bolt.

The second one is a Model 1 with a cracked stock that's been repaired but is all there. Actually bought it for parts thinking the bolt would fit the 2E, but it don't work that way. I'm thinking Brnoman might have a stock, not that I really need one because this one is functional.

Question...................is it worth fixing these two up and forgo the thought of a CZ 452 or 455? Word is the Brnos are accurate rigs.

What say you experts.........looking for opinions.

Thanks,

The Brno 2E and the CZ 452 are essentially the same rifle. The 452 is just what CZ called it after they bought out Brno.

In the long haul, your 2E will have a higher collector value. Great rifles. I have a 452 and love it to bits, and even though I know its the same gun, made at the same plant, find myself hankering for a 2E every now and then. You see them come up on TradeEx every now and then, and in good condition, they go for the same price as a new CZ.

I have found the old Brnos to be slicker and more satisfying.

I always kind of wonder with some of those older "don't make 'em anymore" rifles if there's a bit of survivor bias at work - the good ones lasted, the poor ones got trashed. Also, actions can smooth out with use.

Not picking an argument or anything, just something I wonder about. I know the Brno 2E's are fairly sought after, and for many, preferred over the CZ's.

Maybe those Brno simply needs a new home.

As I said they need work. Have contacted Denny from states and new bolt is about 90.00 for the 2E and a new stock for the Model 1 is about 110.00 plus shipping. So for about 230.00 I could have two fully functioning Brno 22s, just have to hope they're accurate..

$230 is about arf what a new CZ would cost you, if'n in fact you could score a new CZ 452.

I'd spend the tewterdie and you have tew tew for less than the price oh won.

Clean the bore and put a flashlight in the receiver to check the rifling. If the rifling looks Ok and the crown of the barrel doesn't have any gouges, you'll be good to go.

And kamlooky is right. For $230.00 you couldn't buy half of a CZ452 or 455. And once you've got them both in good firing shape, if you don't like them, flip them on the EE. You'll get way more $$ than what you put into them.

I grew up shooting my Old Man's Brno and I have owned 3 different CZ's which I bought new. Accuracy is similar and there is no measurable difference that couldn't also be explained by the normal variations found in two rifles built one after the other. What is quite different is the fit and finish on the Brno. It is much more refined. It also cycles much more smoothly but that could be attributed to being well used.
