1) What's the difference between the Express and Wingmaster models?

2) Are all 870 parts interchangeable? That is, if I buy any model 870 at all, and decide I want a different feature set, can I just buy a new barrell, chokes, and whatever else to make it match one of the different 870 models?

Yes. All parts are interchangeable between express and wingmaster.

Only difference is in fit and finish of the parts. However, a nice blued wingmaster receiver will look retarded with a parkerized Express barrel... :)

Although I only have the 870 express, I read on the web, (Chuck hawks etc...) that there is a small difference in the bolt design (express was built with cost of production in mind) and definitely the quality of wood. My 870 express has pretty, but cheap and "hollow" feeling hardwood. Birtch or something? I dunno. The wingmasters get high quality "solid" feeling and looking walnut.

AFAIK, all parts are interchangeable between 870s of the same guage. However, my 12g stock doesnt fit on my 20g receiver. Hope this helps.

To repeat what has already been said yes all 870 parts are totally interchangeable. The Express model has Birch wood while the Deluxe or Wingmaster has Walnut. The external finish on the Express plus the Birch stock makes the price cheaper on an Express.

It says on their website though that the "Police" model isn't interchangeable. Don't know the truth in that.

My old bear gun resembles that remark!

Built on a stripped 3" wingmaster receiver I got off the board with a bunch of extra parts I had kicking around, police bolt and trigger group, pachmayr foregrip and Knox compstock with a rifle sighted express barrel with remchokes.

I've got 2 receivers and a pile of accessories, and it's like lego for big kids - today I think I'll pull this off of here, and stick it over there, swap these bits and presto 2 new guns to play with! :D
