OK, we have covered bear defense. Big bore, 44mag, 454, 50, maybe even a 10mm. We are covering people and home defense below, with opinions ranging through the entire spectrum. My question is this: is there a gun/calibre combo that would be suitable for both ?
I am sure that a few people might live in that sort of situation where people legally carry concealed for defense against persons but must also be cognizant of defending themselves against dangerous animals such as bears, moose, alligators, unicorns, etc. If we take bears for example, a 9mm JHP probably won't penetrate deeply enough or do enough damage to stop a charging bear hence the need to go to a big bore revolver. Now, if you try to carry a 629 or Redhawk concealed, you might have a bit of difficulty unless we start talking about really short barrels. But then there is the other problem of overpenetration. Anyone know what would happen if you shoot a person with a 454 casull ?
So that is sort of my question. Is there a gun/calibre combo that could do both, ideally without changing ammunition. A 629 might be easy to swap ammo for different purposes (44mag for animals, 44spec for people) but again, is there a good compromise without changing ammo ? What about a subcompact Glock in 10mm ? Still go for a snub-nosed big bore revolver ?
