a great vid of freedive spearfishing. think of it as bowhunting underwater! beens Freedive spearfishing for about 15yrs. land hunting is growing on me, but still second place ;)

this guy makes it look very easy, but it takes a great deal of skill to stalk that close to sal####er fish, and remember he's doing it ALL on a breath hold in 10-30 METERS of water. calling using throat noises ands scratching with rocks on the seafloor can cause them to become currious and come in close to investigate, lots of fun! enjoy :D

to many to list, have hunted redsea, the med, indian ocean, pacific northwest, quebec, arabian gulf.....

a 75cm euro style speargun is quick and has excellent penetration qualities. used mine to take many a pike :D

freshwater fish are beyond dumb. not much of a hunt when it comes to pike or bass, you can just swim up to them and usually take one with a polespear.

Cool I want to do this. What do I need? A long stick with a barbed speer and a snorkel?

I remember someone:redface: spearing fish with a pitchfork in the creek when they were a kid.

dpending on where you are in Alberta, there are active Spearos (euro slang for freedive spearfisherman) in Calgary and alberta. www.deeperblue.net is where pretty much all the active canadian spearos post, check out the ALTASUB (Alberta spearfishing club) forum.

pretty much a good suit, mask, fins, snorkle, and a pole spear. the regs are very strict in Canada for spearfishing, but there are some spots where it's legal.

I spend a lot of time fishing from my boat, there are always those few days a year when is hot and the fish are shallow enough, the waters fairly clear, it would be nice just to jump in and start blasing with a spear gun, even if it is just to cool down.

So how long would a guy have to hold his breath to go down say 15feet, poke a fish in the eye and swim back up to the top? You see, I have the following problems, I can't swim very good and i can't hold my breath worth a crap.:D  :runaway:

Cool to watch, Thanks :)

I couldn't do it though.........I'm too scared of the Big Ones with teeth:redface:
Freakin Jaws Movies ruined it for me:mad: ;)

I had the chance to spearfish pike in Saskatchewan for a few days in the summer of 2005. Pretty exciting feeling to snorkel through the weeds and suddenly be eye to eye with a 15-25 pound slough shark. I was a newbie so I was only able to shoot two pike and couple of perch but I had lots of opportunities. Would probably get into it if the regs were a little more lenient in Alberta.
