Try to keep it brief and there are pics in the links.
12 year old daughter decided over the last couple of years that she wanted to get her hunters safety and start hunting after she turned 12 (she had spent a ton of time with me in the blind in the previous years). Well she kept true to her word and did so in the spring. After a summer of prep we decided to embark on her first bear hunt in MB and lo and behold the kid manages a 302 lb bear from the ground with a perfectly placed shot on day 2.

That success burned like a bright sun with us and she was hell bent for leather that she wanted to shoot a deer. We began in the youth mz season and she passed on several does saying they weren't quite right (not sure what made them "not right" but...). Moving past the youth season and into the regular mz season we continued the quest.
Together we sat and she decided to skip one night with dad....of course it's a night when 6 bucks presented shots and ultimately one just looked too appetizing....When I got home she was all smiles and congrats without any jealousy of not getting one of them herself.

Fast forward exactly one week and she's back in the blind. Deer were around almost immediately and after an hour or so a dry doe stepped into a lane about 35 yards away. The kid quietly cocked the hammer on the mz and with a simple "take your time" from dad she dropped her first whitetail on the spot. I'm pretty sure I came unglued!!!!

At this point her youth tag and my general tag were cut but that still left one more general tag for her if she chose.....and thankfully she chose. On our first night out during the MB general season she decided she wanted to use the mz again knowing full well that her range would be limited etc. Right at dark a big 4x4 emerges and plays the game just right except he would not stop for love or money (I tried both I think). The only time he finally stilled himself was at 115 yards facing away and we had a pre-determined distance of 75 yards as her max. No dice.
All week we thought about that deer and I reinforced how proud I was that she said it wasn't right.
One last quick hunt was possible 2 weeks ago today and she was eager to get out. The weather was perfect however the deer were sluggish at best. After 2 hours only a doe and fawn were seen and she was getting antsy. A quick look out the window of the blind that I was sure would never have a deer framed in it and there he was. The 4x4 from the weekend before was on a mission cruising right to us. Unfortunately he hit our wind and was on high alert. Instead of coming through at 50 yards he jogged quickly to 100 and was now out of her range. She knew this to be true and she immediately handed me the gun and said "shoot him dad"! I actually asked "are you sure?" and got the "YESSSS". Don't have to tell me twice. The mz continued the bang flop history and we walked up to this.....

As a dad there is nothing that could make be prouder and I would kill to learn where she learned her patience and determination as I can promise I had neither at age 12.
For the calibre guys the bear was a 243 with a 100 grain bullet - 30 yards track and all others were tc omega Blackhorn powder with a 250 grain Hornady sst and all fell on the spot.
PS - she now wants her own Omega so if you're selling...….
And I can only seem to insert the links from photobucket so I apologize but the pics appear to be there if you do click on them.
