I believe it likely is at that.

The gent shown in the photos is writing up a magazine article review for said rifle. I don't know which publication by name. But since it wasn't my deal, I'll leave the official review to him. ;)

I simply shot it to give my opinion on its function. (back seat driver)

Its a nice rifle. If you wanted to get a superbly low weight and low recoil rifle to bring your wife into the shooting sports, this is pretty ideal IMHO. Less recoil than the M4 (if thats even possible).

Longest target engagement was at 500m.

Well that's handy, isn't it. Nice looking rifle. Price is a bit steep (for me), but that's the way these things go, eh?

Thanks for the pics.

I thought full auto guns were illegal in canada

They are -- mostly.

Police and military can possess them, as can certain folks with very special licences.

- some movie armourers can own them
- some gunsmiths and firearms dealers can own them
- people who owned them before they became 'prohibited' are allowed to continue to own them. If you didn't own them before the law changed, you can never get that licence (unless we change the law).

For ordinary folks like you and me, there's no way.

(Not that there were any problems when it WAS legal for ordinary folks to own them. "Prohibiting" them was a solution looking for a non-existent problem. :( It was solely a political move to help the gov't of the day look like they were "doing something.")

The Tavors being sold here are semi-automatic only, and were designed that way. They can not be converted to full-auto.

That shorty M14/M305 caught my eye.

The leftmost M1A is an M305 cut down to ~18.6" and mounted in a Vltor stock. It has a genuine KAC rail, and a 2 MOA Aimpoint CompM3 sight. I cant comment on the guts being USGI or not.

The rightmost M1A is a mostly stock Springfield Armory SOCOM 16 with an Eotech 552 sight, and a Vickers Tactical Sling.

The mags are a mix of USGI and Chinese copy. All mags have Wolf Spring replacements regardless of origin.

Great pics! Did you like the Tavor?

It has its pros and cons like any gun. FWIW, I understand this unit has many rounds downrange, and it still performed quite well.

If I bought one, it would be for its non-restricted status.

Nice pix, but job at a magazine or not we need more info on how the Tavor feels and shoots!

Sorry. Like I said. Its not my deal. I'd like to get invited back to the next preview shoot. ;)

I can't offer official thanks to CanAm, as they didn't send the gun to me. Re-read the above statement.

That said, I had a moment of reflection as an independent third party to this shoot. As nice as the product is, the savvy advertising aspect of this trial struck me as one of its crowning features.

Any company willing to go this far to drum up interest in its upcoming product lines is not only going to be very "buyer friendly", but is likely to start to develop quite a following as buyers wait for the next big release product.

I'll be watching for good things coming from them.

I wonder how many rounds have been through CanAm's Tavor already?
When I first saw it at a Tactical Rifle match last year,
(2007-May-06 http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=150200&page=4)
we alone put about ~600 rounds through it. Now it has been back and forth across Canada pretty much non stop since then.

I bet it has more rounds through it than most black guns ever get fired in a lifetime.

PS. i would like to see the article. I had an article published in the CSSA mag a few months ago on both the Tavor and the Norinco Type 97A.
