Canadian Forces still use the CarL Gustav ? Thought that went out muzzle loaders, or soon after. :D Maybe cause we've got a government that values it's Military, but it seems the Forces are less reluctant to display their sharp end, than they used to be. Good to see

I attended the show yesterday. It wasn't overflowing with MILSURPS. Sometimes it is though. A couple of yrs ago every second table seemed to have a No5 JC on it.

I quickly gloss over things like SKSs and the pile of re-worked/reactivated STENs, but I did see a couple of nice LB No4s, a couple of M1 Carbines, a couple of No1MkIIIs, a PCMR M1917 Eddystone, several Mosin-Nagants, a M1903 in nice shape, but for a pooched barrel, and NO Garands at all:eek:. There wasn't much for parts either.

I did console myself by picking up some new Starline .455 Webley and .38 S&W brass, some 265 gr cast boolits for the .455, and a nice M1 Carbine handguard. There was a pee-pot full of old Winchesters on the tables, incl quite a few M1895s. It is a pretty big show and is well worth attending. I think I'll book a table or 2 for next year.

The military does still use Carl Gs, though the newer ones are being made from lighter materials (thank god). A couple of buddy's of mine who went to the sandy place told me about them being far more managable than the older models

I'm surprised the unit doing the display hasn't got the C9A2 yet. Must have been reservists. Hate to admit it, but doesn't the MG34 on tripod look a lot cooler than the C6 on tripod :p

Thanks for the full report, sorry to hear there weren't many milsurps. Any pistols? 1911's?

Cheers,
-Steve

Yes they were reserves. They were trying to purswade me to join the reserves.

I saw a few 1911's American Built for WW2 for 800+, I also a few k98k's. There was a RC k98k for 795!, then there was a k98k sporter that had a cut sight base and missing the safety for 375. And then there was a battle field pick, that one looked like it saw action, all pited for 700 obo.

I was not to impressed at the prices of milsurps this year, even though i bought a few nice Hunitng rifles.

That's weird, I thought they stopped making those to focus on the MG42s. I suppose if you still have the machinery, why stop making them. Learn something new every day I guess.

Every once in a while I think, you know, you only live once, what's 3 or 4K on the credit line for a year? At least I'll have owned one of the best MGs ever made.

Hell the US army is adopting it because it's cheaper and more versatile than blowing up a hut with a TOW or Javelin. Pretty amazing weapon actually and good bang for the buck, unless you are the one humping it.

Most likely a Dewat or TNW MG34 on an Bundeswehr Post War MG3 Tripod with the MG34 adapter. The 34's were never made to be put on the MG3 Tripod, just adapted because the mounts are plentiful! :)

Pakistan is still making the MG42 (MG3) as well as half the countries in Europe, Afirca, and South America.... No one is still making MG34's... cept for the new Semi Auto only receivers from TNW.

I prefer my TNW MG34 on the AA Tripod personally... ;)

That table with the stem guns was ******** (armedsask) he was telling people that his guns were all non restricted even with the short barrel on em...

Oh some PRes units have the C9A2' just not that one. Ours got them due to the G20 deployment.

Also tell that bleeping soldier to get his hands out of his pockets and wear his issued boots well polished out in public instead of those Oakleys. His RSM/SSM is likely spitting bricks right now.

Why they have the vehicle mount buttstock for the C6 on the SF kit is beyond me though, non adjustable gas regulator so I assume it was an Armoured unit with left overs from the Cougar days.

You will find more later dated MG 34's than MG 42's. The 34's were made in the Czechoslovakia up to and past the end of the war. It is not uncommon to find 45 dated 34's. The mount in the picture is not a 34 mount but a West German MG 3 mount with the Hensold scope. The mount does appear to have the adapter for the 34 however. The 34 Layfette mount is much different and the scope is also different. Good 34 mounts are hard to find and mucho expensive when you do find one.

The other mount you see in the background is the mount for a ZB 37. Probably one of the Venezuelan ZB's that were sold here in Canada a long time ago. The AA leg is lying under the mount. They are class item in the AA mode with the shoulder stock, AA sight and the AA pintle. Anyone looking for a belt loader for one and belts ???...PM me.

When mounting the C6 on the tripod the drill is always to remove the butt. This is because you aren't putting it in the shoulder, just firing with thumb and forefinger so as not to disturb alignment with C2 sight. None of the C6s have adjustable gas regulators anymore. Coaxial C6's don't have slotted flashsuppressors or forward mounted front sights either

Hmm, guess the Inf units I work with either don't bother to remove the buttstock or forgot the other adapter lol. I suspect the later... Just one more thing for the troops to lose in the field.

I've only seen the fixed regulators with the Armd units, up until last year all C6's that I've seen for PRes Inf units still had the adjustable gas reg (well I mean easily adjustable gas reg). Maybe a phasing out thing.

Never had the pleasure of a coax sighting... Too much of a tease for us militia types.

I Dont wear issued boots... THEY SUCK !!!! And no one sh!ts brick over them anymore... But pockets hands... Must of been a cold day...

That is all
