1970's ammo seems to shoot more consistently than 1990's vintage.
1970's ammo seems to be less dirty than 1990's vintage.

This is based on firing 1 case of each from the same rifle, at the same range in the same shooting position: benchrest, sandbag.

I don't know but I have a problem with the 1990's vintage. Only 5 rounds will fit in my 30 round magazine. Ideas? :HR:
 
buy another mag:p OP; I have also noticed a difference, I put it up to it's age?! Perhaps there is a chemical difference in the powders/primers? What ever it is the older the dirtier that's for sure....shoots the same for me anyhow.....and, yea I can't seem to get anymore than 5 as well and my mag cap is only 10? WTF?....perhaps there's a Conservative out there who can help?.....let us know, {soon} will ya:D
 
My chrony says the older stuff is also about 200 fps slower than the newer stuff. This has the effect of making the newer stuff tend to stick in the chamber of my XCR, probably due to higher pressure, whereas the older stuff will shoot all day without problems.

Of course, in our SKS's or CZ's that's not a problem.

My 70's ammo and 90's ammo all shoot the same. just under 9 inches at 100 yards.
It must be the rifle cause all my other rifles shoot under 2 inch groups with factory loads at that short range.:confused:

Wow, there is definitely something wrong with that rifle. I have had 8 SKS's over the years. Own 4 now. All shoot/have shot under 6" at 100yds without any work. Current ones all shoot consistently under 4" but I did a little crown work on two of them.
Try drilling our the rifling at the mouth of the barrel bacjk about an inch. That will eliminate the wear that has developed over the uears of having the cleaning rod dragged over the rifling at the crown.

I used a 5/16" drill.
