a few questions for those who know more than i:

a) Whats the deal with flash hiders? how come the slightest burr or deformity in a crown can throuw off accuracy, yet flash hider come in all sorts of non-symetrical shapes? Would this not throw off shots?

b) What is the rifling twist rate of the AR180B? What about the AR 15 (lets say the model equivilant to the C8 14" bbl? how bout the equivilant of the C7?)

c) is the shearing of the pivot pin in the AR 180B a very common problem or is it quite rare?
Has anyone found a good fix for the problem?

d) is it wise to rough up the metal surface of a gun before painting and/or armour coating or would a good de-greasing and primer be well enough?

e) is it true that you can fire .410 rounds out of a 45-70? (not that i would anyways, just curious... never know what might come in handy when in a tight pinch)

f) why is this country so full of illogical over-emotional hippy losers?

a) Unlike the crown, the flash hider does not make contact with the bullet...

d) Glass bead or sandblasting followed by a good cleaning with denatured alcohol or brake cleaner seems to do the trick!

b) The Armalite 180B has a 1:9 twist. I belive the C8 and C7's have a 1:7 twist. You can get AR-15's the same as this, but most have a 1:9 twist.

As mentioned, AR180B is 1:9.

The shearing of the pivot pin is very rare. I've only heard of two instances. Most likely caused by letting the reciever slam open. My rifle has a hell of a lot more wieght hanging off the front than any stock AR180B, not a single issue with my pivot point.

e)- I sure wouldn't, but you might be able to, TC contender used to be able to shoot .410 out of a (I think) 45 colt barrell?

Jolly, flashhiders do cause group dispersion, I read a post a while back by KevinB which mentioned dispersions by as much as 30% with an A2 flashhider, many of the newer fancy hiders are made to higher tolerences than the A2 and therefore minimize this.

flash hiders might change the poi but shouldnt cause bad groupings the same as a muzzle brake I would think

Depending on how tightly torqued on your flash hider is, your accuracy can vary too. If it's torqued on too tight, you actually deform the metal in the barrel slightly by compressing it, and this has a negative affect on accuracy. The USAMU apparently tested this, and found that M-16's with the flash suppressor hand tightened were more accurate that those that were fully torqued on.

Good for range use, not for field work.

e) according to one source the Wild West Guns co-pilot (Marlin 45:70 modified for takedown , chopped and tuned) can fire .410 bore in single shot mode). there are derringers and others that fire .410 bore shells and .45 Colt chamber- this is the interchangeable combination most often mentioned

Im gonna have to call you out on that one, seen as how i recently fired a 3/4 MOA grouping at 200 metres, only to be outshot by my friend who shot a 1/2 MOA grouping, with the C7A2, complete with flash hider. I can definately see the tightness of the torque affecting it though, im off to loosen of my flash hider right now (jk, it shoots great already)
