A few questions

I'm completely new to reloading! There, I said it :D. It's a little overwhelming but I've done nothing but read and research for the last two weeks. Unfortunately I still have a few questions.

1) I think I'll be buying the Lee carbide 4 die set (9mm) that Budget Shooter sells. Would I need to use the powder through expanding die on a Dillon XL650?

2) Is this correct:

1) Lee sizer/decapping die
2) Dillon (???) expander/powder charge (Comes with XL650???)
3) RCBS lockout die (Future purchase)
4) Lee bullet seat and feed die (I'm not sure what it feeds.)
5) Lee factory crimp die
 
You can get a Lee auto-disc powder measure to go on the Powder Through Expanding Die if you have a turret press this speeds up loading. Budget can supply this as well.

I have a 550, not a 650. That said, you will not use the lee powder/expnding die, you will use the dillon powder die as that is what the dillon powder measure attaches to. Unless you get the lee *shudder* measure as posted above.....

This is what I thought, it's just a little confusing because Dillon says that the 650 doesn't come with dies. I guess they don't consider the expander/powder measure assembly a die.

Again I'm talking about the 550, but the powder through die is what the measure mounts to. The expander is seperate and cartridge specific. I usually comes with the caliber conversion kits (expander, locator pins, shellplate)
 
So I'm back to being confused.

I bought a Dillon XL650 (Still awaiting delivery) w/ a 9mm conversion kit installed/provided from factory. Will I have to buy a Dillon powder through expanding die? I know I can't/don't want to use the Lee powder through expanding die.

Can anyone with a XL650 please throw me a bone. Nearly 100 views but still confused as @#%$.
 
I watched a few youtube setup videos on the XL650 (scarce) and I'm pretty sure I must buy a Dillon powder die [Dillon p/n 20064] if I want to use the Dillon powder measure system. I'm assuming it's the only die that will work with the Dillon powder measure.

I think you should be good to go. You will install the resize die, seater and crimp dies. No need for the lee powder through die.
 
If the powder measure comes with the press, you should get the powder die with the press.

If I sound unsure it's because I bought my dillon press 20years ago. I'm not sure what comes with the kits these days.
 
Also, for future reference re: powder die, when you decide to reload another cartridge with your 650, that would be the time to order another tool head AND powder die. That way you can leave each tool head set up for each cartridge.

It will become clear to you once you get your paws on the press and start using it, grasshopper.
 
The dillon press will come with one convertion kit that includes the
powder funnel/expander. I belive you said it was a 9mm 650 in your other post, so the funnel will be for that. the powder measure and flow through die come with the press. the funnel slids in the die.

I'll take it slow and ask lots of questions. Measure twice cut once type of thing. I bet many people learn on a progressive press this day in age. I don't like the idea of purchasing multiple presses. I know it can be dangerous and will make sure to treat it with the respect it deserves.

I learned on my 550. And I didn't have help or the internet.

I still have all my fingers..........
