Went to "The Sweet Spot" this morning and bagged 3 big male ruffs..:D.. Supper?
Got a separate flush on all three, all shot at about 15yds or so (thick alders in area) and have to say, I made one of my greatest shots on the last one..It was simply picture perfect and beautiful..

And yes, thats a 12 gauge...Prefer 20 on birds, but open choked light/target loads and you do some fine shooting, Nothing shot up and hardly a feather missing on all three birds. The Double is a tradeex special... spanish gorosabel 12...Very nice gun/fit/finish/quality for the price..and I was shooting federal blue box target loads, 2 3/4", 2 3/4 dram, 1 1/8oz of 7 1/2 shot. (find the 1oz 7 1/2's with 3 1/4 dram loads great too)

Lucky you, I had a honey-hole for ruffed grouse that was very productive from 04 until 09. For the last few years, the place is overrun by coyotes and nothing's left.

Ah yes, who can ever forget their first double on flushing ruffies:) Mine was with my 20guage BSS. Great pics.

Thanks guys,

and I probably should've worded my post a little different..This wasn't my first double on ruffies..When I said I got a flush on all three, I meant a separate flush for each bird. But that just made for more action...:D

Did you flush them yourself or do you hunt with a dog? I assume, no dog, cus there is no way you could take a pic like that without the birddog being in it. I think maybe ruffies are my favourite game.

no dog unfortunately...Will be getting one in the next year or so...so yeah, I flushed them... I Spotted the the first two I bagged..made a scuff then shot when they went to wing...the third bird flushed wthout me knowing it was there..they're the best flushes..

Good job GS. Thought I was going to bag my first of the year this morning but it got away. Only a couple of days left to ptarmigan season, then the serious grouse hunting starts.
