I'm new to the airgun regulations.
I couldn't find a straight answer to this question in the firearms act.
I know you need a PAL to purchase an airgun with a velocity over 500 fps as they are considered a "firearm" (ridiculous) but, are they registered currently under the long gun registry?
The reason I ask is because I have an awesome Winchester break single shot (495 fps) that I would like to open and tinker with a stronger spring piston to increase the velocity.
I have a PAL oviously, so once the velocity is increased would I have to register it?
Is this legal?

As far as I know, you don't have to register a sub 500 gun. But once It has been modified to shoot over you do. For the time being

I called the firearms centre, and they told me to make the modifications to the gun first, then for me to verify for myself with a chronograph that it was actually exceeding 500 fps, then to call them about registering it. So, despite having a temporarily unregistered "firearm", that is the order they advised be followed. I wanted to make sure you didn't need to register or perform any duties first.

Hahaha makes about as much sense as any of our other randomly chosen firearm laws
Good to know though.
So basicaly I can modify it, and just hold out for the axing of the LGR, not call anyone or register anything and if the situation arises where I'm being questioned I just say "I modified it yesterday, the firearms center told me to modify it and call them after I tested it, now I'm in the process of getting a cronograph and registering it and you've found me right between those steps" lolol
Thanks a lot for the info man. Cheers.
