Hello everybody, was just surfing the net and i found this video, it mentions using an ar 15 fire control and ak type bolt and gas system. Since it is literally uses both would this be a new rifle or a variant of one of the two, This would be one sweet piece of kit if it ended up being Non restricted.

Here;s the link to the vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvEQHBIeMBY

Might fall in to the same category as the Ar180B, where you're basically combining a prohibited rifle with a restricted rifle, but it's based on a novel receiver design, so it's considered a new firearm and not a variant.

All depends on the mood of the firearms lab that day. There doesn't seem to be any real reasoning behind any of their decisions. Seems like if it looks remotely similar to something they don't like it will be restricted or prohibited regardless of the facts.
The CMMG Mutant is a perfect example of this, as far as I know it has no parts interchangeable with an AR-15 other than the trigger group but they classed it restricted as an AR variant.

The only way to find out is to have a sample submitted to the lab and then wait two to three years for them to look at it.
