There I was bow season for deer hunting (prior to the gun season) on a fire road in the boonies. Early afternoon I take off the orange vest(toss in on the back seat) , put on the face paint and head into the woods, full camo.
Conditions: had a deer hunting licence plus(bow tag)
Anyway spent the rest of the day till dark on the edge of a swamp. The walk out was long (maybe 1.5 hrs after dark) to get back to the road. Walking down the road to a T intersection , car was to the right of there. Lights come on, 2 DNR folks got out of their truck , and requested licence , and demanded I enter the back seat of the truck.
Questions asked, were you deer hunting? No
. You got a deer licence? yes
We know you were deer hunting ! Oh
No office I was after Coyote (totally legal that time of the season)
So then, out comes the rule book (looked like a Toronto phone book)
They spent an hour trying to nail me with something
(I was tired, but it was funny)
The rules clearly stated I could hunt coyote in full camo during that time of year, with the season open for deer.
Well , we are gonna take your bow , and fine you $85
Say what (a $1000 custom recurve , not likely) Then I hauled out my little hunting booklet and showed them that I was legal.
After 10 minutes trying to find something to counter my story , they say - well come down to the station in a few days and we will decide if your gonna be charged or not.
I will remember that the rest of my life (lmfao) I said Ok
The sad part of the story
Next year , rule change
during the early bow season for deer you must wear hunter orange when after coyote) to travel to and from the blind.
Just figured folks would like that one. Part of it anyway.
