A good afortable goose call?

I have tried a couple goose calls over the years everything from Primos to Foiles. In my experience with "economy" or for value calls is that they are easy to get a goose like sound to come out but then you are stuck with that. They are hard to develop and progress on if this makes any sense. If you can get to a place and try a couple out it really helps. I had a Foiles Meat grinder for my starter call and it was good for a while, that is until I tried a Voodoo Medicine Man short reed goose call made by Doug Schuyler in Port Dover Ontario. These are all hand made calls of some really high end wood and look gorgeous and sound even better. It was a fellow CGNer that turned me onto Doug and I have no regrets, Lifetime warranty on the calls. Doug told me he would replace it if my dog chewed my call no questions asked! If you want please check it out http ://sites.google.com/site/goosecalls/

and there is a youtube of the call, (some distortion due to the room)

Check out GK calls, I like their "budget" calls, I am a bit of a call snob, but a Meatgrinder tuned right is a great call, those 20$ calls are ok for a genuine beginner, I have seen a few rebuilt with better guts and they sound good. Spend 100$ and get a good call right of the bat, pm me I may have a reasonable call for you at a good price.

Big river for flute style - very easy and very authentic or the Canada hammer for economic short reed. Be warned though that the short reed is a different animal when it comes to learning how to use it.

Take a look at the GK Giant Slayer. It's an excellent call and sounds every bit as good as an acrylic but is made of Delrin and comes in at half the cost.

The Giant Slay er is the call I started my younger brother on, great to learn on. "Goose flutes" as far as I'm concerned are from a bygone era, in my experience they are good until the geese start to clue in that long loud honks mean that their buddies on the ground are made of plastic and not goosemeat. Too many people use the 20$ CT special and just educate birds.

Of all the brands I have tried in general, I find Primo's to be consistently the best for the economy grade calls. I find they also come with really good instruction, I liked my goosezilla as well.

I found Knight and Hale calls to be terrible.
