Just came back from a good day gopher blasting. Good? Hell, it was great  :D !!
Warm, light breeze to keep the bugs off, and lots of gophers to wail on.

Took my NEF 17HMR for a good workout. Most shots were ~50-75 yards, but on the sweep back through the area, we went long range on the little bastards.....150-250 yards. Even got a couple of 'em at that range   . The grass is a little high, so it was tough just to spot them. Heard them all over the place, and picked off the stupid ones.

So, how was your day??

Sorry MC One Shot, no pics. The ones we did find after were blowed up real good :puke: .
Hollow points and V-Max kick ass   . Just winging them gave a good splash with a 2 1/2 gainer back flip :D .

And I'm not gonna share the area 'cause I'm being selfish right now  . It's mine. You hear me in the back? MINE! All mine....muahahaha!!!

It is a sweet area. A long, very wide valley. We swept up and back on both sides and even trolled the top. The long shots came when we shot across the valley.

I just got back to AB for work wednesday, and my Brother took me straight to his friends farm south of Leduc for some Gopher shooting.....what a time.
My longest kill was 120 paces with my .223 (cheap-ass , but straight shootin norinco JW-105)
I also used my rem 597 with my eagle international 30 rd mag, using CCI stingers. It was pretty deadly....
What a blast!!!!

I was in Waterton all day. Wish I had gone gopher hunting instead. I just got a new 10/22 that needs it gopher cherry popped.

Hakx and I ventured out to Irma Ab. a destroyed quite a few generations of gopher families.

Yes, there was much carnage. Huntsman's .204 Ruger caused many a rodent cartwheel. Some chunk-age, too!

That reminds me, I gotta get another brick of shells for SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY!!!!!!!!! :sniper:

Yup, the .204 will be staying at home next outing....and I went and bought something for future gopher decimation. I'll show ya when it arrives;) ;) :sniper:

How does everyone find the spots to shoot gophers? Do most of you shoot them on friends/family land? I would like to find some spot to shoot them but do not know how to go about it. Are farmers pretty open to strangers walking up to their front door and asking if they can shoot?

As long as you do not show up looking like Rambo most guys are open to letting people shoot gophers. Just make sure to ask where the livestock is and always be very careful of what it behind what you are shooting at. As long as you come off as respectable and responsible they will let you shoot.

I was in Elkwater for the afternoon on Saturday . It was a geat day to shoot gophers.

Had a good day out on Saturday, should have been great but for a couple of screw-ups I took the old winchester semi I have been redoing instead of my 10/22T with newly added bi-pod and my buddy who upgraded from a trashco to a nice leupold with varmint recticle forgot his bolt. there was another party on the property but there was plenty of Targets to share.

The highlights

The winchester when properly scoped will make a good gopher gun not a single feeding/ejection issue and reasonably accurate.

Had 50 rounds for the 22 k-hornet handi for having just "a close enough" sight in I was able to make hits out to about 150 this was with no aids plain old prone or off my knee or fence post. Would have video of a hit but my son is a better gun shot than videographer, just as I shot he shifted and all that you see is an odd chunk flying around.

Absolute highlight is the markmanship of my son (11) he had a bit of trouble picking up the gophers but once he did look out, he was hitting regularaly out past 75 yards and pushing 100. He was using my old Lakefield/Mossberg I added a bipod for that one this year that and a plain 3-9 simmons it is quite the gopher slayer. Good thing I mixed up cases left more targets for him.

When he gets strong enough I'll let him handle the hmr wonder how far away he could hit with that ?

All critters were shot with the fine looking Remington 700P topped with a Nightforce 3.5-15x50 with NPRR-1 reticle chambered for .223. Round of choice was Hornady Amax
