My son, his father in law and myself went for our annual hunt in WMU 357, northwest of Grande Prairie, we hunted Saturday after our arrival, just a few grouse taken. Sunday evening my son took a 2 1/2 year old bull moose, he had a partner tag with his FIL, Monday more grouse, just a few. Tuesday morning the elk were bugling like crazy, a 4x4 bull came out to the east of me at about 600 yards. He responded to my sons bugle and likely some of the real bugling. He angled across me from right to left through canola swaths, when he cleared the swaths it took two shots, standing, and he went down. I’m sorry to say my phone had gone dead from the cold so no photos. On Wednesday my son took his mule deer doe on his draw tag, I could have filled mine but with three good animals down I chose not to. We came home three days early. Total count was 11 grouse, a moose, elk and mule deer. Today we start cutting. We saw a total of 19 moose, both bulls and cows, over 50 mule deer both bucks and does and the one elk I took. We still have whitetail tags, three each but I won’t take one unless it’s a bruiser. My other son couldn’t hunt so he will get a share of the meat. A great week. Good luck to the rest of you.
