a group is working to ban grizzly bear hunting in the yukon as well

When they are done with grizzlies, they will move on to black bears, and wolves, then caribou, etc... etc... it won't end until we are all grazing on grass.

What? Having 45% of the workforce being government workers? How can that not be sustainable?.....................

In many regions across the country, it is common for the main industry to influence local culture and therefore government policy. In the prairies it's agriculture, in the Maritimes the fisheries, etc. But here, as government is the single largest employer, that means the culture of government influences the policy of government, which, as could be expected, results in more government! So for those of us who don't want to subscribe to the hive mind, it means there are three inspectors for every private sector employee just trying to keep their head above the ever-increasing mountain of red tape, as well as having to struggle through the accompanying incredulous disconnect the bureaucracy has from appreciating where tax revenue (that pays their wages) actually comes from.

One day, all too soon by the way things are going, Canada will run out of other peoples' money and the Yukon will stop getting the huge welfare cheques and then we will see who actually contributes new money to the economy.

Jonas,

it is interesting but after being only in canada for now 15 years and in the yukon for 11 i ve seen very strange things like old boys club and double speech of elected politicians that want to get rid of people working in public area (that is including a broad of different places including a lot of non for profit orgs) but when they are the helm they re hiring more or giving more money to non for profit orgs that benefit their friends...

i still think we should publish the sunshine list for any public servants and elected ones and non for profit orgs that is benefitting from that money coming from the sky.

i do agree the 1.5 billion we receive may stop to come but the whole economy will crash as you are well aware local entrepreneurs rely on public funding directly or indirectly.

you ve seen certainly in your previous working life when companies when selling stuff to yg are dipping deeper than they should and everybody is paying because its not their money.
