Gidday Fellas!
Heres a Story from a Trip I done recently. I hope you Enjoy it ..

Had a Wikid Weekend with fellow Forum Member Mick3006 down in hes Patch of Australias Beaut Country Side.

Basically we stuffed around a bit Friday with work getting in the way of Good times, but once we had our stuff Sorted, I went and picked up my Kimber from Micks LGS before meeting Mick at hes place and heading off with the Quad loaded behind the Nissan.
We drove for a while and Ended up at the Gate to Micks Paradise Patch.

We met the Farmer and got some local knowledge on areas which may be holding Critters and where recent sightings were, a Few solid Ground rules laid out and then we were off to the Cottage to unpack and Sight in a New rifle :)

IMG_2648cottage.jpg

This was more than a Bushy North Easterner could of Asked for to rest the head, Eletricity, hot water and a Shower... Over luxurious compared to some of the Camps we have had down South, (hey fellas ;) )

We hit the paddocks for a Scout with the Eletric Dog for the first night, the Grass appeared quite high and we didn't see Any Porkers although Two spotted Velvet critters down in a crop paddock, a plan was made to try get one for the Freezer the next day.. Mick was a little worried that they may not hang around ..

Anyway the Next morning we were up at Sparrows fart, after not much Sleep but we weren't there to Sleep!
Up into an Area Micko says always holds a Pig or two, we Park the Vehicle and begin the Climb up the Fence line, gaining quite some elevation before nearing a Saddle on the Ridges.

Id heard some birds making minor Alarm noises although I didn't act on it, we kept poking along when out of the corner of my eye up Above us I picked up a black blob on the horizon, then 3 or 4 black blobs appeared but were on the move an out of sight, I wasn't confident with shooting upward to the horizon so a plan was hatched to head up higher an run into them further on the Ridges.

in Doing so once we were in the Saddle I look over and spot a couple more Black blobs

Change of plans and a stalk was put on and we closed the Gap nice an close although the Bigger Sow didn't want to play an didn't offer me a real good shot, they were about to head down off the ridge out of sight when Micko mentioned to Shoot now, I replied straight away with " UP Em" an on that Note the Marlin 30-30 Sang out and We had our First Pig of the Trip on the Deck!
IMG_2632mickspig.jpg

The big Pig Dogs took off after the suckers an we managed to catch a few of them to raise the Talley!
IMG_2628sucker.jpg

We gathered our Gear and headed back to plan A which was to find these 4 or So we seen earlier in the morning, I called that we should split up to increase the chances of running into these pigs, weather they went Higher or controured out.
So Mick contoured and I climbed the ridge, I was expecting to hear a Shot at any moment when up infront of me I seen the Blobs rooting around.
I pretty quickly set about finding some kind of Rest and tried to Settle the Crosshairs on a blob, a bit harder said than Done when you're holding a Feather with a Trigger! I danced around a Pig Broadside and Let one rip.. literally! they Pigs took off straight toward me except for one, so I concentrated on the ones coming toward me and they took a turn an went to disappear into the scrub off the ridge!!
not today I thought an so I RAN down the bank and tried to pick up a Pig, all I could see Were goats when one made a dash but paused, an that was enough for me to Send another 150grain Federal Pigwards. It took off also an was never to be seen. (confident of a hit/thick scrub)

So Micko heard the Shots and came up to check out what was goin on, I gave him a run down on the Event and we began having a look around, I picked up blood at the Shot scene, although No where near as much as a Sambar deer!! unsure I circled a few times and started to think id Stuffed it all up for Micko!

Anyway about 15 minutes later , Micko yells out "Oi Whelan get here quick" , So I tried to run with the Pack on an got to hes position, There was Tuffy Face to Face with a Razorback that was Hit a little far back but standing ground! You Beauty!! Crack the Little 7 went again and I had officially Blooded the 7mm08!
IMG_2640KM708pig.jpg

We had reached the back section of the Property along the ridgeline, an whilst I was up on top I ran into a couple of these Critters too
IMG_2645goats.jpg

I met up with Mick under the Fig Tree before we pushed along each side of a Gulley hoping to put up some pigs but no avail... just hundred of Wallaroos, Roos an Wallabys.
IMG_2630mickdig.jpg

That arvo we headed up into A gulley which held water, we thought the Pigs wouldn't be far from there. started down low and headed right up High glassing down on the lower Grasslands in hope of spotting something, Although again No avail
IMG_2651goatdog.jpg

We Decided to have a reasonably Early night, althgouh gave the electric dog a quick run over the Crop paddock and there they were, 2 Spotty Velvet growers.. but that didn't go to plan, it sounded All too easy in theory... "You cant win them all" was a common phrase expressed over the weekend! Mick mmight mention the Dillema on this episode!

We hit the Final morning at 3 am and waved the torch around as we headed out the back of this Huge property to begin a Stalk up into a open field high up on the ridges! again not too much scene until we got our stalk on an headed for the hills.

you beauty we thought!

that's until all of a sudden they started moving along quite quick as the sun got warmer each minute.. unbeknown to us, WE were right on the Game trail they decided to use.. after losing sight of them for 4 or 5 minutes thinking they gave us a Slip somehow, the bloody things popped up 30m infront of us, a quick discussion, You Left me Right and then the countdown was on.... Unlucky for Me the ######in thing stopped behind the rock!!! 3-2-"NO"-1 BOOM 1 30-30 hit home an Pigs scrambled right at us, the Lever was working over time up close an personal, while I ####ed around an wound me scope out an tried an on the Run shot, I rekon I musta Skun the hair off hes chest and a puff of Dust before disappearing... BUGGER!!! (understatement)

Chased em around in hope to find more but no such luck!

There is talk of Heading further up the Eastern corner of the Country to chase some Spotted Deer, You guys may know them as "Axis" deer, we Call them Chital deer..... One for the Wish list! Fingers Crossed

Check the view count ........... 249 or so.
Plus it's not the weekend.

Regardless Laddie, you do have a following............
Great photos and do keep the stories coming.

^^^Local pronunciation is easy, we have Looky. I find the stories interesting, the country, game, and methods different.

It seems like Australia has some pretty easy game laws. Are there any limits, open and closed seasons. I am guessing that there are on the wild game, but not on the Feral hogs and goats. Seems like you are shooting multiple animals each trip, what do you do with all the meat?

you little dog looks exactly like the one my inlaws had (they had to put it down earlier this week) same non symetrical spots.

Nice pictures of the country side. Looks like great hunting ground and a nice hunting cabin, very civilized.

Different Strokes for each different state, the only real restriction is on the Deers, While the rest of the Animals are either restricted by Access (Northern territory Buffalo), (Central Camel) and All the other Ferals, from the Rabbits, Fox up to Pig, Goat everythin else in between is kind of Fair game Regarding you have the States "ticket" which is OTC paid.

It gets a bit funny from one state to another with deer, down my way Deer are Game so have Rules an regs around them , further north Deer are Pest an open slather , no restrictions..
it would be easier for me to explain the regs depending on where you were to go hunting. IT SHOULD be one LAW for all our little Country..

Great read as always.
Your livin my dream.!

Cherrs

Mate I appreciate that acknowledgment, I too once looked at stories an photos an dreamed of doing so. these might not be the animals I dreamed of but its the same boat. Im glad you guys enjoy it!

keep picking at that dream, or make what dreams you have a reality, even if its just now an then! better than not at all!

Cheers
