Was away from handguns for quite a while, and now am returning.
Though I previously shot 1911-.45, i had the chance to try 9mm pistol and a 686 with 38spl this past fall.
I loved the S&W 686 and shot it far better than I did with the pistol.
The only thing was the awkwardness loading and clearing the revolver.
Would like to hear from a lefty revolver shooter(s) before I make a decision to buy a 686 or other revolver.

Thanks

Pretty easy, grab gun from bottom with weak hand, palm up. with thumb of left hand push cylinder latch forward. At the same time, with weak hand (right) use thumb to push cylinder out. now you have the revolver securely in you right hand between thumb and fingers. When I was shooting PPC I would use this same technique. To unload, with cylinder open, and barrel pointing up, I would push the extractor down open handed with my left hand and unload. To load, I would load, by turning gun with barrel pointing to floor , grab a speed loader, insert into cylinder, release, close cylinder.

This is what I was going to recommend but he said it all.
I would point out that you're actually lucky to be
left handed since most manipulations ---for a right-hander, even---
are done with the left hand controlling the cylinder.

The S&W 686 (I have a 586, not as pretty, but .....) is a great gun
for shooting both .357 Mag and .38 Spl. A fellow shooter who does
his own .38 reloading gifted me with a box of 50 wad-cutters. At 20 yards
(our indoor range), those wad cutters make beautiful round holes.

I'm a revolver man myself but I have two semis.

Interested in speed loading mostly. I assume you would hold the cylinder open/out with your left index finger, roll it on it's right to speed load?

Sorry if this is silly, but it will help me in my decision.

For speed loading look at the site of 4wheelguns dot com.
Pelican loading blocks ............ HKS speed-loaders.
4 wheel guns will also alter one (or two) of the spaces
meant to hold rounds to a space that will hold the speed-loaders.

In my case I had the top-left and the bottom left hollowed out to accept
the HKS speed-loaders. It still leaves me with nine loads of 6 rounds.

Good luck.
Let us know what you've decided.

No silly questions here. My cylinder is fully open and the thumb of my weak hand (right) is on the cylinder. The rest of my fingers are wrapped around the trigger guard from the bottom. I use my strong hand to speed load.
