A little help please. U/O 12g for a 14 year old girl, shooting skeet and trap
Hey a friends daughter is shoot skeet and trap with an old 870.
She shot 47/50 at something last weekend. lol

Her dad wants to get her a U/O 12g $2000 budget.

Thanks Sam

A Beretta 686 is around $2200 plus tax, if its a lot, a Browning Cirori Lightning around $1800 plus tax, but this one is heavy, means less recoil.Get a 28" barrels. Both are great shotguns I have them both.
Use Light shell, like the Kent 24gr 8 1/2 , light recoil

If they are not set on 12Ga I would look into a 28ga gun. Its a big difference between firing 47/50 and shooting a few round of skeet.

Thanks for the info guys.

I talked to her last night. She has no problems with 12g recoil. Not sure how many shells she has shot in a day though.
I was looking at the Berettas. Holy crap there are a lot of different models. lol

Will try and get her to a store with a Beretta and Browning.

How hard is it to get 28g shells??

My advice would be to have her try as many different ones as she can. Fit is the most important factor in shooting a gun well, so finding one that fits her well is important. Most shotguns are going to be sized for adult males so having her hold, and if possible shoot, as many different models as possible will be the best advice I can give.

I would look at getting her a 20 ga. its the same costs as a 12 ga. and less recoil! Most skeet guys use the 20 ga. to shoot 12 and 20 events! Fit is the main thing she needs to worry about! If it fits right she will have no problems hitting what she looks at!

I agree completely with this statement. next time shes at the skeet range and you see guys or girls shooting an o/u quiz them on the gun see what they like about it and don't like about it. most people I have encountered are more than willing to help out new shooters into the sport and will most likely let her try it out. offer to use your own ammo tho its just good manners lol

Best advice yet as mentioned before is to have her shoot different guns and she can decide which one she likes best. 20 ga in o/u often time kicks more than a 12 ga because they are lighter. If she is not set onto an o/u, a soft recoilling semi-auto works really well and are also quite versatile.

A nice lightly used Beretta is probably the best way to go ... if it fits her. As stated above a couple of times, gun fit is the key to success. If, the gun fits her, recoil becomes a non issue. There are a large number of light 12 gauge loads available. There are a large supply of aftermarket and used Beretta components available. If you buy a used gun, make sure a competent individual looks it over to make sure it is not badly worn and in good condition.
