Got to the range today for the first time since November 2009. Tried out my newest toy.

Way out of practice, but had fun.
 
I'll do my best not to let that happen again. Health issues, kept me in bed from January 2010, till today.

I got this one from Ellwood Epps on sale last year for $200.00. I didn't shoot the surplus today, and I have a couple of hundred rounds of brass to reload, so somehow I doubt I will. (save it for the SKS) Maplesugar has one that he's shot surplus through, and says his groups are pretty respectable.

No problems so far with light strike issues.

I shot 40 rounds of Federal through it today. After sighting it in, no problems knocking over plates at one and two hundred. Have to wait till I'm more healed before I can load test and go for some accuracy.:D
 
I ran 40 rounds of the Lee 120 grain cast bullet in front of a min load of Unique through one of these today. Groups under an inch at fifty metres - and a big puff of smoke when they hit the 8"x10" gong at 100.
Horrible trigger pull, heavy and and gritty - Mine will be getting a new softer firing pin spring in the near future.
 
I've heard negative comments about the trigger pull on this model of rifle on other threads. Maybe mine is different, or all my life I've only shot bad rifles, but I have nothing negative to say about the trigger pull.

I haven't been this happy about a rifle purchase since buying my 858. This Baikal fits me perfectly.

Please tell me about the scope mount? How is it?

The scope mount, I purchased from Marstar. I think I got lucky with it because shortly after buying it, while looking for other mounts, that style was missing from their inventory.

I'll describe it for now, and post a picture in the next day or two when I can get up again. If someone is looking for one, maybe they can find one simular.

The mount is a conversion type that goes from the narrow .22 dovetails, to the Weaver style mounting system. Even though the bottom part of the mount is short, I had to file it even shorter and contour it so the action would close. A picture is worth a thousand words.

The coincidental part of that mount for me is, it raised the scope and moved it back a couple of inches. For myself, it is positioned perfect, although it may not be for most people. I have trouble shooting scoped rifles with the traditional type mounting position. My neck seems to be too short, and I have to strain it in order to see through the scope properly.

The trigger pull on mine is about 15 pounds and is gritty.
Part of this may be due to a firing pin spring that seems to be extremely stiff. It actually makes a "clang" when dropped on a snap cap.
The detent in the primer of a fired cartridge is rather deep as well.

Despite the heavy trigger it is a very accurate rifle.

I am using an 11 mm air rifle mount (available from Elwood Epps) to mount the scope.

I also found my 311465 double cavity bullet mold last night and will be casting up some 125 grain Loverin bullets for this gun.

I know the revamping I did on the mount is borderline bubba, but I didn't have much time to mount the scope.

Just for fun I included a picture of some surplus that I pulled the FMJ bullets, and replaced them with 125 gr. V-Max bullets. The advantage here too is that exactly the same amount of powder went back in each one.

An interesting tidbit of info, pulled 40 bullets, only had enough powder to load 38 of them after it was distributed evenly
 
Tried to resize, fail!

Didn't bring the reloaded surplus to the range because I couldn't spare the time to go through the ritual of cleaning the rifle after running corosive ammo. Anxious to try it out.

Incidently, I would guesstimate my trigger pull at less than two pounds.

I use the weaver 22 rimfire rings for mine. Look for the narrowest scope rings that you can find. These guns have a short base and on the scope caps might not be short enough to get the rings on the base of the rifle. burris rings might work or something similar.
