Well the 2 weeks of deer camp are over and am catching up on some memories of the time I had got to spend with good friends and family. I would like to share this with you folks.
First week Thursday AM on a chaise we call the horse stable run I was the middle chaiser with a red bone about 200 yards from comming out of the run I met up with my friend John also from Palmer Rapids we took 2 steps and John said look at the moose! just standing there in no hurry. I told john just wait until the red bone sees it and we will get a good look at what happens when a bull puts his horn back and runs LOL! Well sure as the day is long bang the redbone was on him the bull turned and ran about 12 feet and fell A.S.S over tea kettle, as he got up I told John the bull does not look right looks like the right leg is not working, Buy that time the animal showing his left side ran buy us about 30 yards looking me right in the eyes and fell again. At this time we were both getting a bit nervouse but no allarmed just trying to call the dog off yelling at him.
Well up jumps this bull swinging to the left and next thing we knew we were being charged full on I had my gun up and ready as John was yelling and waving trying to stop it just as I was to sqeeze the trigger the moose went down agin an honest 12 feet from our feet and the fight was on the dog saved the day he grabed the back leg as the moose fell and the dog went sailing past us got up and there they were noise to noise the moose was urinating every were spraying like nothing I had ever seen. we backed up 15-20 feet real quick and John fired a shot in the air. The dog is gun shy a bit and yelped off the moose wabbled ran 15 feet and layed down. We snuck out to the watcher not 150 yards away he thought we were killed in there buy a bear.
Both John & I reported the wounder or sick moose to Fern Blaugh CO for our area.
This is the closes I ever want to get to a moose agian He had one option to stand a fight and he did.
The MNR Co was one of the best Cos I delt with.
