I am looking for a new or used(aguess new to me gun) for hunt big game. My good friend suggested the Tikka T3 lite stainless 300 wsm, he tells me its most likely the best bang for my buck. I was wondering if you guys would suggest something different or to stick with the Tikka?

Regards,
Ethan

The T3 has had a good reputation for accuracy, but to own one, you must like plastic. The Suggestion of Amphibious is a good one, and there are good buys out there on this model. You may want to check the EE forum. Usually an excellent buy or two on there. Regards, Eagleye

I also think that the t-3 is a very good gun at a very reasonable price. It may have more plastic than some people like, but on average, there are few factory rifles that will outshoot them at any price.

If you like the DM, SIR has a Rem 700 camo stainless with DM in 30-06 and .300WM, or .300WSM with floorplate for $650, nice guns:)

aaaaaaaa

I think I would go with a new savage, ive got a few of them and I must say, the new american classic beats any of my old rems or tikkas

But thats just my opinion

E-shooter how long have you been hunting?

Is this your first gun?

What will you be hunting with it?

Reason I'm wondering is I saw a post where you said a 20ga was the hardest recoiling firearm you had ever fired.

no this is my 4th gun, id like to hunt deer, elk, and moose, oh ya ive been hunting since i was 9 and when i fired that 20ga it was when i was 12 and since then the chance has never come up yet for me to shoot a harder recoiling rifle(by the way, i ain't small im 6.1 feet and prolly 210 lbs.) Ive shot a browning 30-06 and if a moose would have walked out a 7mm and i might ask my dad if I can take his 300 mag out to the local range. But thanks for taking the recoil into consideration.

Go with 308.

Damn near the same as 30-06 with the bonus of being able to buy cheap, surplus 7.62x51 and learn the gun.

Shot placement is FAR more important than calibre.

T-3s are good shooters for the money. As long as you like the look and feel of them, T-3s have very smooth actions and easily adjustable triggers.

Tikka is excellent quality and are guaranteed to shoot 1 inch groups out of the box... all of them! They have no plastic on them the synthetics are made from co-polymer/glass fiber and they are extremely tough and very light.
If you want to spend more for less buy a Remington.

hehehe, the Tikka fan-boys, duking it out with the Remington fan-boys; a quick showing from the Savage fan-boys, and possibly a peep out of a milsurp fan-boy :)

Pick one and buy it - for hunting purposes, they're all so.... equal. I like the T3 lite - it's very very light and easy to carry around. But it's also very plasticky and ugly to my eyes, a Stevens 200 serves the same purpose (Light, reliable and accurate) for a fraction of the price. Fugly as hell though. The Remington 700 series is a solid performer with a proven track record, and won't disappoint. Don't overlook the Weatherby Vangaurd (especially the new Deluxe) or the Winchester model 70's. Not as popular, but certainly decent performers, and you can find them with the controlled feed again these days. And while we're on the topic of mauser-actions, you shouldn't overlook the CZ's. I'm not a fan of Browning's, they're nice enough, I suppose, but overpriced IMHO.

a good gun for your buck would be a ruger in 30 06 or 270 and if you can find one the 7x57 excellent gun to shoot ....

I have just so recently looked at a tikka t3 lite and I was amazed at how smooth the action was and light it was, i could have held it forever, it was like a first date. I can't wait till I buy it, it will be almost like a perfect marrige, it won't complain about me not shaving or not putting the seat down but it won't tell me that my pants don't match my shirt or that I have food in my beard. Anyways I'm really really excited!!!!!!:D :D :D

Yeah E-shooter... all you have to do is work the bolts on all of the above to fall in love with the Tikka. Never mind the fact that it has the best out of box trigger of them all and the best accuracy overall.

Ya, while I was looking at the Tikka i also looked a couple brownings, a 270, a 30-06 and a 300 wsm, If I didnt like the tikka as much as I do and the Browning was cheaper, I would get the Browning 270 because living on the Vancocuver Island means smaller deer, but since the Tikka is cheaper, lighter has a smoother action, I'll just have to take head and neck shots.
