Dang it all had my first problem with the thing yesterday and it's biggy... it fired out of battery... I stripped it down today to see how bad... I've got a case or what's left of it stuck in the chamber there is no base/rim

2 questions...
Why and how to do I get the case out??? I can take it to the smith but it sorta pisses me off to have to take a gun with so few (maybe 500) to the smith for something that shouldn't have happened in the first place...

Check your headspace. I had few of those mishaps before but after trimming the bolt face and machining a new (shorter) extractor the problem is gone.

Let me hazard a guess. Were you rockin and a rollin on the trigger?

It is possible to cycle the trigger faster than the bolt, particularly with a lighter match trigger with reduced overtravel and take-up.

If it happens again during slow, controlled fire than you most definately have a problem.

Put a brass brush on the cleaning rod. Should have enough friction going through the smaller case to push the casing out.
Since it fired out of battery, I assume only part of the case is in the chamber?
Any chance it was Remington ammo?

Yellow Jackets.... I had fired about 300 of them through it before this incident.. and no the brush dinna work... first thing I tried then I tried hooking the case with the rod and bent the rod.. left a burr in the case but not enough to win with...

Ummmm.... Why yes... I was about 18 rounds into a burst... Sighting in the Scope don't you know... I'm going to guess the round was not quite fully seated and it blew of the back and left my this wonderful little band of brass in the chamber....

As for driving a 22 pellet down the 16" barrel thanks but no thanks... It's bad enough that I have a broken case in the thing...

Since the cleaning rod will not grab it I guess it will have to go to the smith..

I'm now kinda glad I missed the boat on these......I'll stick with my Squirs & Binghan M-16R...Ulgy as some may find it, it's never gives me trouble.

This is easier than you think, it's just like slugging a bore. Get the pellet/fishing weight and a wooden dowel that just fits inside the bore and cut the dowel into 4-5" sections (they flex less than one full length). Put some grease on the pellet and lightly tap it into the muzzle end with a small hammer, once it is in the muzzle place a dowel section on top of the pellet and begin tapping it down adding dowel sections as you go. When the lead slug hits the head of the case it should swage around it and pop the case right out. I have done this a couple of dozen times to rimfires and it's probably the same thing your gunsmith will do.
Remember guys who shoot muzzleloaders drive much larger lead balls into the bore using wooden ramrods and a little wooden hammer with no problems.

Yeah - I consider myself lucky to have missed out on the R22's as well. I guess I'm double-lucky because I don't have an ugly Squires & Bingham though either! :D ;)

Ewwww!

Well I got the barrel & reciever back from the smith today.. He asked for the paperwork for transporting the prohibted firearm.. I said what.. He said the barrel is really nice the rifling is fabulous hasn;t seen stuff like that since he worked on SMGs.....

From the remains he took out the problem was a corroded case.

Ok so what's the deal with transport papers for a NON RESTRICTED rifle? I understand registration but who requires an ATT for NON's??? You don't happen to live in Ontario??

I think the smith figured it was from a restricted fire arm because of the quality of barrel and rifeling. I could be wrong though.

I told him it was a 10/22 clone and it surprised the hell out of him.. even more when I took him to Rhinelands site... But then he read and he said it's a quality barrel and the rifling is really nice... Asked me if it was accurate and where I got it... Told him TSE and when it shoots really nice...
