Let the name calling begin. :D

Although I have no brass or a cleaning brush. No stock. And I wasn't really about to buy a box of factory loaded fodder full of premium bullets just to try, so she will sit in waiting for awhile I guess. Although apparently I can make brass by "fireforming .308 Winchester"

Honest, I was told that. :p

I have done it with other calibers, 257 wby to 270 wby (.277) with zero problems. Use lube on the inside of the neck applied with a Qtip and do it slowly in the press....

Also by sizing up 308 brass you have other options in higher quality brass, such as Lapua, Norma or Nosler brass.

It works really well, just make sure to lube the inside of the case mouths.
I had a 338-06 improved cut down to 308W length and cut down the dies as well, about ten years ago. Same as the 338-06, just run some brass over a sizer and trim for length after, as the neck mouths won't be concentric or level. Great cartridge by the way to bad mine is on a full length action. bearhunter

Thanks, I'll have to try it. I wonder how hard it's going to be to expand the case mouth?

It is not a problem. I resize 308win to 358win in one step. Just lube the inside of the neck well. The nice thing is that there is always a good supply of 308win brass around - new and once fired.

Good luck and post some range results.

OUCH!

This is one case where I would of probably passed on using the Tikka platform :runaway:

its a 338 Federal, not a 338 Win Mag

I hear running 308 brass through the 338F sizer die will form the case in one pass.

If you want a lower priced factory load for making brass, get the Fusion 200 grain load, they sell for around $30 a box.

one other thing, Winchester 308 brass is supposed to hold 3-4 grains more water compared to 338 Federal F-C brass, so if you're looking for the most out of this cartridge, that is the way to go.

I look foward to my Sako 338F showing up soon. Keep us updated on how the Tikka is

Well here's how it will sit for awhile. I have an old steel tube Weaver K3 that I mounted up top. I'll replace it with somthing better later. But this should hold up for now once I get some ammo put together. I'm excited to try this cartridge out.
