Picked up a new Ruger Hawkeye compact laminate stainless 223 from SFRC, I've always wanted one of these, fit and finish is real good, after unpacking gun i noticed there was ding in the stock on top of the pistol grip from what appears to be from the bolt making contact upon removal or instalation likely at the factory, i contacted SFRC the same day and told them about the minor damage and provided pictures, hats off to them as they provided great customer service and provided more than adequate compensation without hesitation and was resolved immediately, very impressed! The gun has a nice weight and shoulders very nice....even better after i installed a Limbsaver recoil pad which looks pretty good on the gun. As the weather has been to miserable to go to the range i thought i would work on the gun abit before i had a chance to shoot it, i lapped the scope rings which were very uneven, relieved all contact points on stock and barrel and torqued action screws so i would have a starting point when i tried out my handloads, which i have a few different powders and charges ready to go. I chambered a few resized brass and to my suprise they were very tight and some i would have had to forced to chamber, was suddenly bummed out, lol, had no issues with my Browning Abolt....went and bought a box of factory ammo and had no issues, prob a tight chamber and my Lee die was not quite sizing small enough .3745 at the base of the brass, borrowed my brothers small based dies and they callipered .373 same as the AE AR223 which both chamber nice and smooth without issue. Hopefully i will have a chance to go to the range tomorrow and post some results. Thanks for reading!
