I got this SKS on a trade from another CGN'er. So far out of all the SKS's I have seen in my travels this is the most unique.

This SKS came to me with a Monte Carlo stock on it. I changed it out to a Tapco stock as you see in the pic. Here are some of the unique features:

1. It has no bayonet or lug. It's not a hack job or a once through with a grinder. It has no lug at all. Even the D's either have a bayonet or a cleaning rod lug. This one, nada. Also, there was no provision for a cleaning rod either.

2. Trigger group is an SKS45 style, but the bolt latch to hold the bolt carrier open on the last shot has been removed and a spot weld has been put in it's place. Same format as the SKS-D. On the other side of the mag well there is a notch to accept the AK mag in the receiver. The latch which on an SKS45 is used to hold the box mag trap door closed acts as a latch for the AK mags.

3. This receiver can also hold a box mag.

4. The barrel is 19" from face to tip. (using the rod method)

5. There was no Sporter stock with it. That in itself would have been awesome.

6. The arsenal marking indicates it was made in China factory 6616 by Norinco.

7. The bolt carrier has a stripper clip guide. (whereas the SKS-D does not)

8. All numbers matching.

I have done as much research as I can on it to figure out what it is, and I have concluded it is an MC-5D variant. There were a few different ones made as I have read. This truly is an awesome find for me.

The magazine in the rifle is not sloppy or poor fitting. It's tight and in there. A trip to the range will be next to confirm how it cycles.

Here is the pron:

The one I own has all the features you've listed, except it is marked as a MC-5D on the reciever - no sign of any "Chinese arsenal" markings. It also holds an AK mag very securely.

interesting rifle , im not too fimiliar with MC-5D but:

- you mean AK box mag and not SKS standard fixed mag .

- SKS-D comes both with and without tripper clip guide .

- shouldnt you have a stamp MC-5D on the receiver ? maybe its a "M" .

This receiver can fit a standard AK magazine as well as an SKS45 box magazine.

I have never seen a China direct manufactured one with the guide. I have had 10 of them at one point and I haven't seen one with a guide yet. I have read if it has a guide it's not an original part from the factory.

If I do I cannot find it. But I read there were "M" style receivers out there that were variants without a marking.

you know that the AK mag and standard SKS45 mags are not interchangeable bcos of the duckbill ?

there are quite a few SKS-D with clip guide . i suppose they are earlier models, those with guides were converted from existing standard SKS so the carrier was already made, they tried to reuse as many parts as they could even the stock so there was a metal plate filler where the duckbill suppose to be , later they replaced the wood .

and even later than that , they would manufacture the standard SKS minus the stock, front furrule and carrier, make those 3 new parts and convert the rest.

Guess this makes this one extremely unique.
