A P14 followed me home today

Very nice P-14 Hitzy!

BTW: My dear departed Saskatchewan born Mother in law used to say the same thing. She was full of those old sayings and I remember her often. Her best one; When she saw someone raising a sweat was "He's working like a black!" That tended to raise eyebrows in recent years-for sure!:)

I like my P14. The action is smooth and the rifle is generally built like a tank. It's the softest recoiling rifle of all the Enfields I have.

Are there any decent no-gunsmithing scope mounts for the P14? All I've seen is that B-Square nonsense.

I think S&K make one as well.

Hitzy your P14 is the Bees knees. :D

Nice to see how the apature sight fits on them.
I'll be looking for one of those next.

What model type should I be looking for?
Williams? Parker Hale?

Parker Hale and AJ Parker make drop in rear target sights for the P14, they also work on the M1917 but you need to use a P14 ejector housing spring. Mine is the Parker Hale 5B.

Here is a bombardment of pics of my P14...
...It didn't come with the original rear sight which would have been s/n to the rifle which is a bit of a pisser. The front sight housing was also modded into a dovetail base for the parker hale front globe. I plan on getting all these bits and pieces to restore it somewhat but it's fun to shoot with the target sights as is. I will use a K31 clamp on front sight instead of the front globe......

Strange... I feel a fit of envy coming on. The sights are superb. Geez... maybe I could trade my original sights to you for those Parker-Hale ones (!!)

Is it the type that mounts on just the rear sight between the sight ears? Those look so hokey.

Ok I had her out at the range today and I have to say she shoots nicer then my #4 Enfield Sportster, and I don't say this lightly.

I was using 39 grain (and later 41grain) of IMR4064, with a 150 grain spritzer bullets.

The 39 grain were what could best be described as silky smooth, and the trajectories worked well with the Iron sights.

At 50 yards she is a tack driver...Once I figured out the sights, and noticed that the screw holding the barrel to the stock was loose, DOH! :D

At 100 yards she seems to group abit to the right, but all shots where within 1" to 1 1/2" to 2". (I call it Min' of Nazi):D

Mind you I was shooting freehand for the 100yad mark, but got one bulls eye when I benched her which I could never manage with my #4 so it was prob' my wobbliness standing, and my near sightedness. :D

The 41 grain seemed more kick then effective, but sounded brutal hitting the
metal ram out at the 200 yard mark downrange which I managed to hit quite a few times.

I'll be making up a few 180 grain bullets to try next.
but for now I am very very impressed.

BTW the pushing on the bottom mag' plate towards the trigger worked! She popped open like magic...good thing too as she was a bit dirty in there.
