I think this is the VERY FIRST TIME I have looked at this forum............

............and I see a lot of familiar names so I know I am in good company.....

OK I have a pair of pinfire pistols here, European made, possibly Belgian, with zero marks on them that I can find. The calipers put the bore at probably 15 mm, and a google search tells me that they did make 15 mm smoothbore pinfire pistols.........

When you #### the hammers back, the triggers come out of their recessed grooves in the bottom of the pistol, and you can then open the breech by means of a knob on the left side of the pistol.

These belong to a friend who wants to sell them. He has a price in mind, but before I list them for him (no computer, no Internet...) I would like to see if I can get an idea of what would be a fair and reasonable price for both buyer and seller. To me they look pretty rough, but I have zero knowledge of this kind of antique gun. And for sure they are antiques and not registered, nor do they need to be registered, that much I do know.

I have pics if one of the very helpful folks here would post them for me, myself being of a certain age and technically inept...............

Thanks for any help and advice!

Doug

A few hundred dollars for the pair max unless something is special about them. Less if rough. Pinfires are one of the lesser desireable "antiques" due to the difficulties in associated with handloading for them.

Are they revolvers or single or double barreled SXS pin fires?
Im guessing Double barreled SXS type. 15 mil is more desirable than the little calibers.
Pics are a must tho :)
EDIT Ah i see hammers and triggers so there SXS double barreled pistols.

Pics hosted for Doug ;)

Well, they're a couple of really early breech loaders allright. Both in rough-ish shape in my opinion.

I really can't see them being worth more than $300 or $400 for the pair, but who knows - lots of ppl are crazier with their dollars than I am ;)

Well there a nice pair! i dont see any shell extractors on em guess its fingers on the pins.
Theres no Belgian proof marks on the breach fasces eh? they made pinfire ammo after 1898 i got a big howda 60 caliber rifled barreled BD SXS pistol but its got a pre 1893 proofmark on the breach face.
im makeing 15 mil pin fire ammo for the howda i got with rifled bores. but ammo is the turn off with these. im useing 24 gage brass shotgun shells trimed down on my lathe and 60 caliber hollow based bullets.
These ones would be cool mini SXS shotgun pistols with the smooth bores and 4 shots you could make a mess of a target at 20 ft :D

They would make a perfect duelling set. They just need a little restoration and some ammo, and a presentation case.... and voila! You can challenge your enemies to a duel! :D

Thanks son. Maybe you can do this while you are doing nothing else this summer, other than listening to a bunch of POed NCOs screaming at you worthless maggotesque officer wannabes............

Hi Doug, try this website joesalter, he has a lot of antique firearms for sale.Might find something close to those.
Btw I've gotta stop looking at them, they're calling me:)
Cheers nessy.

I paid $600 for a .53 cal double pinfire but it was in far better condition and far better made. Mine had a single selective trigger, perfect bore, high quality locks and was made by Lebedn, a big name Austrian maker. Made shells from brass tubing and lathe turned solid stock for the bases.
Those guns look Belgian to me and I would think they are in the $100 - $200 range with the recessed triggers being the main reason for going much over $100, but that is my personal opinion.
Ultimately something is worth what someone else will pay for it.

cheers mooncoon (another Doug :>) )
