Hello All,

I have been looking for a shotgun with wood furniture, and blued not parkered, for a cut-down project. Initially, the Winchester Model 12 was an option, however, it was recently expressed to me these are valuable shotguns in original format. So. I have taken a look and I believe a cheap Savage Stevens Model 67 might be a good idea for my project? Any ideas? Do all of these have wood stocks/foregrips and are blued?

Please post pictures if you have one, and a mini-review!

The model 67 Stevens is a piece of junk very unreliable many inherent problems as far as Model 12 values again plain field grade models can bought for $200-$300 and are far superior to any pump gun made .

I'd stay away from the Stevens.

Ithica M37 is a good reliable shotgun available in the $200-$300 range if you watch the EE. Seems like a few other people think so too, M37 prices have been creeping up lately.

Also look for winchester model 1200, and remington 870s. There have been some 12 ga, 2.75", plain bbl m1200 shotguns going for $200-$250 on the exchange. Any of the mossberg pumps are good, too.

But if you really want a M12, go for it. Some people would consider cutting down a M12 as sacrilage, but it's your money and the plain barrel field grades aren't really collectible.

Thanks for the warnings. Looks like an M12 it will be. I plan to keep it for life so I am not too worried. Now to somehow dredge up the cash... 2-300 is STILL two to three HUNDRED. What a great addiction we all have eh? :)

1897 Winchester...nothing looks more boss than a 97 riot or trench. Plenty of 97's to be had at reasonable prices as well.

I have one cut to 20 inches as purchased the shotgun for a song years ago. It had a ring bulge six inches from the buisness end due to being fired with snow or something in the barrel.

Never see's the light of day much as I got tired of shooting up rusty oil drums pretty fast....

I wouldn't feel too bad about cutting down a field grade Model 12 unless it was in really good shape. Run of the mill examples are fairly common and don't command very high prices.

One neat feature of the Model 12 is that its magazine holds six shells; the same as an 870 with an extension to match an 18" barrel.

Hey M12Shooter, you wouldn't be interested in letting that 97 cut-down go to a home where she'll be shot alot more by any chance? Let me know if you are. Otherwise, the search continues.

Get something plain jane and common that uses interchangeable barrels like an Remington 870, Winchester 1200, 2200, or Mossberg 500. Get a spare barrel. A combo set will likely increase in value.
