I recently picked up the Mosin pictured below because its date of manufacture is prior to the Russo-Japanese War. My great grandfather was a veteran of that conflict so I thought it would be pretty cool to get as close an approximation to what he would have carried. I know, I know. It's not 100% proper being a Finn capture and receiving the Konovalov rear sights in 1908 but it's the closest I've come in the time I've been watching the market. I thought I'd share this cool rifle and a picture of the man I'll be honouring by shooting it. He's in the front row and has no facial hair. He was born in Russian controlled Poland in 1874 and presumably conscripted into their military. If anyone can give me information about his uniform (besides being Russian obviously) I'd very much appreciate it.

Very cool, definitely a interesting bit of personal history you are trying to capture. I will wish you the best of luck as finding a original configuration one will be next to impossible. I too recently got a older M91 Infantry rifle, mine being from 1895.
