I have a very nice 03 Springfield rifle that I just put a new barrel on (new military surplus) The gun shoots high. I do not know if it did this before I put the barrel on as I never shot it before.

I see the front sight base is dove tailed so it can be replaced and the sight blade is held on with a pin.

My question here is do I need to look for a taller front sight base or a taller front sight blade?

Any and all help on this matter will be much appreciated.

Thanks Graydog

The replaceable front blade came in 5 heights, each height adjusted the point of impact about 2" at 100yds.

Your rifle is shooting low, so you need a shorter front blade. How about carefully filing a small amount of the blade tip off, confirm zero, then touch up the bare metal with some bluing?

You will have to use the same ammunition (M2 Ball?) for your new POI to be consistent.

Is it M1903 or M1903A3?

If it is the M1903, the raised leaf is graduated from 100 - 2,850yds. When folded down, the battle notch is set at 547yds.

The windage scale is equal to 4" for each line, in lateral change at 100yds.
