I am fitting burris zee rings to generic weaver bases.

When I fit the burris ring, before tightening, there is some foward and rearward play while the ring sits on the base. In other words the cross-bolt of the ring is a little smaller in diameter than the slot in the weaver base.

Have any of you experienced this? I assume this is so that you can insert the cross-bolt back inot the ring once you have slid it onto the base, as is required with the burris ring (if it was snug you might not be able to insert it?)...or is this a problem?

I have found one web source where the author metions this as if its the norm and advises to obviously tighten the rings with the ring pushed against the front of the base (due to recoil inertia).

The amount of play is very small, I should add...
