What's wrong with Parkerizing?

Some are hard coated "parkerizing" type finishes. Some are literally BBQ paint that comes off very easily.

I have only seen one with odd park finish that may come off easy, the rest, well over 200 inspected, were quite acceptable, I like the blueing too but it seems a lot of folks these days prefer their rifles and shotguns parkerized or equal type finish, less reflection I guess!

I have no problem with any finish. Honestly paint may resist rust more than bluing. Chrome lining is important to me. Other than that it's all the same. Although I would be preferential to a good park...

If you just want a shooter SKS go for the best deal you can find. They will all go Bang, and if you stick with original configuration you will never have an issue with operation.

Yep! I pretty much always wait for a sale on them, either locally or on line, except on line you will have shipping! Watch for good sales on crates of ammo too!

make sure it's trigger locked if you leave it in the 4x4

And it would be dependent on if it was under storage or transportation laws. If he plans to leave the firearm in his truck for extended periods of time, it is now storage and requires a trigger lock (or remove the bolt)

Yep but its my birth year ( i am older than dirt) so i am likely keeping that one! Are you looking for that particular year?

I usually don't trigger lock them
they are stored in a hard lockable case that is locked and the case is chained (or steel cable) to an anchor point.
the case is also stored out of sight

It's hard to do an in depth check of the rifle at the store. I look for a good bore, crown and trigger feel. I also check for a tight fit of the metal to wood by wiggling it around. Stock fit is quite important for accuracy and some sks are very sloppy. The last one I bought met all the criteria(1950) but the hammer spring was rusted solid when I stripped it and the magazine catch needed work. Not a big deal cause I wanted the spring loaded firing pin option
