Hey guys,

Well its that time of year again, the snow is melting and the gophers are starting to come out. Unfortunately I'm stuck indoors studying for finals (luckily for the gophers ).

While taking a break from the books I decided to get my SR-22 ready for a new season of slaughter. As I was doing this I was thinking to myself how it would be nice to improve the balance of my rig as at the moment it is rather front heavy in it's stock configuration (no extra rails, bi pods, or other goodies).

So my question to other SR-22 owners is this; has anyone tried mounting a Magpul MOE hand guard on their rifle? Or any other hand guard for that matter? Is it a simple swap or a pain in the a$$ that requires special tooling?

IIRC .. the MOE handguards attach with the delta ring assembly and not a barrel nut. It would be nice to be able to cut down the weight a bit. Or you can just tie a few of your textbooks together and curl them while studying ;) :p :D

Sorry, forgot your other question.

Yes you can use practically use any foreend that uses a free float hand guard. The OEM hand guard nut does not come off easily either. They use red loctite on it, and a AR wrench does not fit it. I took mine off with a set of channel lock pliers, my strap wrench just slid and didn't cut it. The problem with most of the aftermarket stuff is that the rails that come with them, will not sit high enough to line up with the factory scope rail on the Nordic chassis.

The only ones that do are from Dlask. They make a shorter 7" hand guard that comes with rails that are made to work with the OEM set up of the SR. Just take off the old pieces and slap on the new ones. I got this set up on my SR and is better than the factory hand guard. I don't notice any weight difference with it, but that may be because I use a heavier .920 barrel on it.
