It may have been answered or it is so obvious Im an idiot.... but, hoping I'm not....

I have the LEH with me and I see this years numbers on for the draw.... but why do we not have the updated regs? or are they already released and i just cant find them...

My family and I are trying to figure out this hunting stuff better for the fall, i.e spend time camping in the area i want to hunt to learn it better. But it would make sense to me to release the regs so a fellow could decide to try on the draw as well as the open season or not....

I guess it is all academic anyways cause I dont really know white tail vs muley vs moose vs elk territory anyways.... the chaps I went with last year tried and I guess i know a little but lol.

anywho anyone know why the new leh and regs dont come out together or do they and im an idiot?

Yes I know the LEH is out, but where are the general regs and why are they not out? I only find the LEH with my google fu, not general regs.

editing in; These regs expire in june, but we have the Leh info for this hunting season. Doesnt it make sense to release both at the same time so people can decide wether to try for the draw too off of the most up to date info?

Click on the page with the big 16/17 on it. It is the regulations synopsis. There is 28 pages of info. I'm thinking what you looking for would be in there. I'm in AB myself so I'm not gonna read the 28 pages and see if your desired info is there but I'm thinking it is. Anyway just trying to help , if the info isn't there phone and ask your specific question.
 
Yep thanks for trying to help mate... I'll explain as I see and understand if im wrong a chap can correct me.

The link you gave went to the LEH Regulations Synopsis, which gives you tenative number of authorizations and odds of winning for the LEH. But it does not give info on general open season.

Now the link I provided goes to the Hunting and trapping synopsis which gives the bag limits, bow season, open season etc. But the effective date of the regs in the link ai gave expires June 30th 2016.

So I am wondering why we have the LEH regs for hunting this fall but we dont have the hunting and trapping regs yet for this fall. I hope that clarifies it. Next time ill be more clear from the get go, I thought I was sorry.

p.s i have looked over the 28 pages and if it is in there im missing it, the full regs are roughly 96 pages ;)
 
The new synopsis doesn't come till after the old one expires, even then it's usually late, and they usually go pretty quickly

Damnit, I kinda figured that... but I honestly was hoping I was wrong.

My wife and I want to try and get a moose this year and debating on going up to 6 for it.. or trying for a draw down here. I have heard people say up in behind adams lake is good so if the regs were spike fork again, I was going to try for a draw up in there. But maybe ill just do regular season this year and learn the ropes more, we only have a 2wd truck anyways lol
 
It comes out June/July. FYI I have successfully hunted all my life with a 2wd - walking is good for ya :)

A few years back, BC changed things up a bit and started issuing the Hunting and trapping regs for 2 year periods. The current Hunting and Trapping regulations synopsis for BC is for July 1,2014 to June 30 2016. There will be a new set of Hunting Trapping regs out this summer for the 2016-2018 seasons. They don't change much with each new issue.
The Hunting -trapping regs are an entirely different document from the LEH regulations synopsis. The current LEH synopsis lists all of the hunts available for draw in 2016/17 and the hunt code numbers change every year so there is a new LEH synopsis produced every year.
You will need to get both documents and give them a good read. The Hunting-Trapping regs spell out what is legal and illegal and they also show the general open seasons by region and by species for both large and small game.
There are lots of areas in BC where you do not need a Limited Entry authorization to hunt for big game. With the exception of Bison and Grizzly bear, there is a general open season for all other big game species somewhere in the province. To quote the LEH regs "LEH seasons are introduced where it has become necessary to limit the number of hunters or limit the class or ### of animals that may be harvested."

If you want to apply for LEH, fill your boots. Be aware that you can buy a license and tags for all big game animals (except Griz and Bison) and the Hunting-Trapping regulations synopsis will tell you where and when there are general Open seasons available for hunting big game.
 
Yea I am sitting on both documents right now. I think I'll pass for this year.

I am going to spend all the time I can camping in behind adams lake in the momich lake area (or wherever looks promising to my ignorant eyes).

I figure more time on the ground will be better. I have 0 clue how like spike fork moose are, but I hope if im deep in the middle of nowhere on opening day... I might get lucky.

Spike fork moose and then likely just any buck for muley and white tail as they open. I just want meat in the freezer. We are hopefully starting the weekend camping program next week. Thanks for all the info guys.

The season dates are usually historical and can be extrapolated for coming years. If there are major changes afoot, you will usually hear plenty of whining beforehand.

They don't change significantly from year to year.
The LEH should be viewed as a means to increase your odds . . . putting it off to next year does not improve your odds of getting a draw.
With the new online LEH application getting started could not be better.
Trying to figure out why the "gov" is doing something is a waste of time but if it was easy everyone would be doing it.
Crime wouldn't pay if the government ran it!
